My consultant told me that it was drinking every day that caused the problem, I'm pretty sure that one day off in 97 would have saved me a lot of grief.

Emigrating to Canada in early '72 I had to find a G.P. Turned out to be a Welshman about my age ( he was a mate of another lad from Scotland (also a G.P.) who was on the football team I played for) .
This is good, I thought, having access to all this free medical advice through mates & mates of mates.

First general medical I had with him ( the Welshman) a year later, the usual questions were asked....family medical history, personal medical history etc etc.
    Then came the serious questions:
"Do you smoke ? How many per day ?" Usual lies from me.
"What & how much alcohol do you drink per week ?" Tricky one, so I gave a daily intake estimate. Lying through my teeth again 'cos I usually lost count by Wednesday.
"Maybe 3-4 pints a day, no spirits, and maybe a couple of bottles of white wine each weekend" was my best answer.
    He looked at me quizzically.
"Is that a problem Doc ?", I asked.
"Well, boyo", he responded, "let me put it to you this way".
" With that daily intake, if you were an American living in the U.S. you'd most likely be classified as a raving alcoholic".
I sighed, in dispair, for what was likely to come next.
"However", he said, " here in Canada it's more likely you'd be viewed as a borderline case, but in England, where you come from, it's the cultural norm and no-one would bat an eyelid."

This was disturbing, so I plucked up enough courage to ask him what advice he would give me.

"**** off back to England, you Yorkshire bastard." was his retort.

He & his Scottish counterpart are still my best mates over here. Despite their alleged hatred of the English. Love 'em both, the twats.

He was probably right - it can catch up with you after constant use.

Hope it works out for you OLM...stick to the regimen.

Have a chomp on this motherfuckers!

    I'm pissed

We've just gone into a club in Basildon

    We were both ID.

I asked if there was an upper age limit.

    I was told "no sir"

We both officially look under 25.

    **** you age.

Night on hand pulled Old Speckled Hen, not a bad pint for southerners.

It wasn't your age, they were checking you weren't illegal immigrants.

I ended up back in Lion & Key couple of days ago
Was on Fat Cat IPA, 6.4%. Really nice, although surprisingly heavy ( Mrs Tash had a mouthful and asked if I'd added a shot to it!)

Last night however was an old school long drinking session round a card table with some great chaps. Corona, Grolsch and shots of Fire Eater liqueur...until 4am. I was a little fragile this morning

I tend to stick to the lighter beers

It depends what your doing really
We'd only popped in for a couple so heavy was fine, not a session beer though
