To be honest i wouldn't be happy with 5th (maybe if we win the FA Cup!). I Honestly think we are in the position to reclaim a spot in the top 4.
Completely agree. I'm a little worried a few seem to think it's enivitable. It realy isn't. A bit of silver would be lovely!
Yeah it definitely wont be straight forward but surely has to be a very realistic target. Personally, I think Arsenal will drop out of the top 4.
Excellent post, Mr Nips. 2nd best form under Kenny with a squad that was, as has been said, bereft of confidence was some achievement. Some results were Kenny and Steve turning it around, and getting to know each other while doing it. That's no longer the case. Now they're building on 2nd best form. That 2nd best form was for half a season and a full season is different - look at Chelsea's two half-seasons. I said look at Chelsea's two half-seasons. First half bad like the gunsmoke, then the best form for the second half. Like Liverpool's, huh? Nobody's saying Chelsea can't challenge next season and they need a big rebuild with a new manager, which we're already well into the process of. And now we're stronger than we were to get 2nd best form and still strengthening. The competition could be as haywire as last season or stronger than ever but we've as much chance as anybody of competing on any level now.
That's quality MG. We have been hugely unfashionable in the media and with opposition fans for the last couple of years and i think this is probably a symptom of that. Chelsea have a poor first half, and yet are nailed on to challenge again. We have a poor first half and still have a huge amount of work to do. That's despite the fact you could argue we've strengthened much more effectively than them (transfer window is of course still open), their old squad is getting closer to retirement, and we already have our manager in place and settled, along with the coach (Clarke) who they wanted to bring back. Add no Europe for us... and we can at least be optimistic!
Get real the honeymoon perios is well and truly over, dalgleish is going to get his arse handed to him on a ****ing plate next year
Mr Schofield is on the wum again, perhaps he has nothing better to do. Best to ignore him. I agree with most of the OP's points, but I must admit to being very disappointed in our performance against Spurs. I don't think we were unlucky, I just think we didn't perform well. However, it's a new season coming up, we've made new signings that should address a lot of the problems that have beset us recently. Kenny had to work with what he'd inherited and performed far better than could have been expected of him. Now he's shaping the squad in the way that he wants and I don't see us rolling over so easily again. To me, anything less than 4th will be a disappoinment, anything higher, a bonus.
People need to stop hating. Liverpool, with the likes of Flanagan, Robinson and Spearing managed to get the 2nd/3rd most points in the second half of the season. If you seriously believe with Gerrard, Adam, Downing, Henderson and Aquilani and a fully fit squad we won't improve, you must go see a doctor.
Again with the WUM Yes or No Will the expectation be higher than last Season for LFC/Dalglish? Yes or No Does Expectation bring Pressure? Yes or No Do Professionals Footballers miss a target 8 Feet High by 8 Yards wide and no-one within 10 Yards of them because they are incabable? Yes or No Or is it PRESSURE! Not WUMming, just offering a view, you can of course choose to ignore it, but you would certainly go up in my book if you actually entertained the notion that I could be right and tell me why I am not!
A few of the genuine ones can put up a good debate, KingEric07 and United19Red to name a few. Although sometimes it can get a little too far.. WUM's decide to disrespect legends/traditions/tragedies which can always be annoying when the debate is in top notch mode Edit - Skylarker, just ignore David
I wonder how Ferguson will get on when he has the pressure of facing corruption charges. He's going down for a minimum of 15 years when found guilty. Or Giggs facing the pressure of 7 years in prison for telling the courts porkie pies, and Rooney for being the biggest laughing stock in English football when the whore he was shagging spills the beans on ''I'm a celebrity get me out of here.''
Will expectation be higher in terms of position? Yes. Will that expectation bring more pressure? Not necessarily. Nobody expects us to win the league, surely that should give us the ultimate edge? Are we talking about penalties specifically? If what you say is true then why do teams practice penalties? There's no pressure in training, so surely players should prep by doing some public speaking or door to door canvassing for example? For a regular chance however do you think league position comes into a player's mind in that split second? Or is it focus and technique? That is to say, if we have good players who apply themselves then 'pressure' is secondary. Finally, we did tell you why you are wrong, but your responses had no evidence, facts, or substantiated arguments to actually carry things along and make this worthwhile.
