To equal their final standing in the league of a year ago, Chelsea would need 25 wins and 1 draw from their remaining 26 fixtures, scoring 57 and conceding 9.

That is not a bad shout for an interim should Roman decide enough is enough. Don't think he would be given too much cash as Chelsea do have an abundance of talent there already but at the moment it is misfiring badly for reasons beyond our true understanding. However it is likely he would go for a manager with a more proven pedigree.

 

This is ridiculous....nothing wrong with losing to Saints, Stoke, West Ham etc, but a team like Chelsea shouldn't be losing to all of them.

 

Why not Fran? They are not Barcelona or Bayern!! Either the teams you have highlighted have improved or the top end of the PL has regressed. Arsenal are second and are very beatable on any number of days throughout the season. Manchester United playing absolute tosh and 4th at present. City might be the best of the bunch but are still prone to a wobble.

 

Chelsea have splashed the cash on players and have (reputedly) one of the best managers in the League....they should not be losing so many games.

 

Saying Remy was "too honest" is the sort of thing that makes my blood boil. Butland made no contact and any claim for a penalty could only have come by Remy deliberately allowing himself to be tripped. Call me an idealist but Remy showed a true sportsman's spirit by trying to actually score a goal.

 

Why would the ref still not give a pen, the keeper obviously stopped a clear goal scoring opportunity, whilst Remy stayed on his feet. The best option for me, was to give the pen and congratulate Remy on his honesty.

The ref can't give a pen if there is no contact, which because Remy jumped over Butland's legs there wasn't. He stumbled because he lost his footing on landing, not because he had been tripped.

 

So that rule sucks, just encourages dishonesty and play acting

 

By the rules of the game, the ref can actually give a penalty without contact, if deemed an attempt to trip him:

sadly refs like to see a bit of play acting or swan diving before they'll award one.

 

Chilco, I may be wrong, but I am sure I have seen players go in two footed in the middle of the park anf not made contact, but a foul and card has still be given

 

Fair enough, but in this case the ref rightly decided that Butland was going for the ball, despite missing it totally.

Don't get me wrong, if a pen had been given I wouldn't have said it was the wrong decision. Loic Remy, as Tom said, took the decision out of the ref's hands by trying to play on, when he could, in the context of the modern game, have been forgiven for going down.
