It was a rare sort of match: pleased enough with the performance, deserved to win...but I'd recommend against watching it in full.
For someone who did not watch the game - not that far wrong. VVD looked very good but it was a 'day off' for him. One on one with Fletcher for most of the game defending Big Sam's hoof-ball and his side sat deep - always isolated. So he looked very comfortable - also made some timely interceptions - but very much a 'men versus boys' for him today. Clasie looked more composed and made valuable passes and interceptions - definitely get more effective each game. Davies never stopped running - very much the engine room of the team. I would say that the only slightly negative comment would be our ability in the first half to retain possession in the forwards. A few too many times we let possession slip but were much better in the second half. Would go for Davies overall as MOTM. Yoshida would be my second choice. But take nothing away from the others - all were solid.
You keep thinking that FLT. Makes them cheaper. I believe the core of the subject was Italian engines.?
Contrary to what some have said, other than our inability to score from open play, I thoroughly enjoyed watching that performance. Every player did their job (Vic who?), and the way we took the sting out of the game at the end, showed a growing professionalism and maturity, if you ignore VVD's decision to abandon defensive duties, late on. Even allowing for the level Sunderland are playing at, that was, IMO, one of our best performances this season, because of the control we asserted for 90 minutes.
I see that Big Sam is bleating about the penalty not given. Not surprising really but making such statements hardly helps his changing room. He should be concentrating on the positives - he really has no idea how to manage and motivate his teams. Strangely he did not mention Billy Jones wearing VVD's shirt at every corner...
