I overcame nervousness by not going near the tv....long phone call to a friend and started reading my reading group book...Jeckyl and Hyde.

You can only beat what's in front of you.
I've always thought about that about Sunderland supporters, masochists. Least the tickets are comparative cheap, they have to be.

Van Dijk is my MOTM. 11 aerial wons, 85.5% passing completion, 7 clearances, 3 tackles.

Also, it is impressive to dominate possession to such an extent away from home and keep a clean sheet. Particularly with Yoshida at right back.

I agree, Yoshi is doing a good job, and Ron thinks he's a better option so that must be the right thing.... After all Ron knows far more about football than any of us... Why don't we just get behind Yoshi and wish him a thoroughly good game...

Yeah, in my post I said you'd be a long way away from the football. :)

Interesting that you're in a reading group. I've thought about joining one of those myself just to get me reading books again. I have, off the top of my head, in my possession and waiting to be read, something like 30 books. That's bloody ridiculous. I even bought another the other day off ebay [brilliant price], sat down with it, got right into it by page 30, and I've put it down. What's the matter with me.? I seem to be lacking those long moments where I'm not doing anything else.

I doubt if it's a dislike of Yoshi, it's that people love Cedric.

I thought he did very well indeed today. Duncan Watmore was a very tricky winger with plenty of pace, but Maya held his own. He didn't get forward very much, but when he did, he did fine. And at the close it was handy to have 4 CB's against Borini and Johnson.

BS kept mentioning what a good side we are, but said his back 4 did well and were let down by the guy who conceded the penalty. Also suggested that they should have got a penalty because of a Yoshida hand ball....but the pundit on Sky mentioned it hit Maya on his side rather than his hand. Sam looks depressed...when you are down you never get a break. So I guess we are big time now :)

Bit lifted from the BBC site.

Allardyce was frustrated his side were not given a penalty for a Maya Yoshida handball, but such an award would have been harsh on the defender and his team.
Southampton were dominant - playing 555 passes to their hosts' 306 - and the way they looked resolute and dealt with some long balls late in the game will please Koeman.

Having taken just two points from nine to start the season, the south coast club have now built momentum and by the time they face Stoke after the international break, will have gone more than two months without a defeat.

Without European commitments Southampton perhaps have an advantage on those chasing a top four place around them and more somewhat ugly and efficient wins like this will certainly not harm their cause.
