Because they don't do the 220 petrol in the car I ordered it's either the 300 or 180 and the 180 is, quite frankly, ****e. 300 is too thirsty.
The authorities are still suspicious at VW's test methods and claims of halving emissions. please log in to view this image
No. I'll enjoy it but, economy aside, I'll always wish it was petrol. The petrols are seriously quick with a little bit of altering.
So are the diesels Bob, a remap works wonders, but obviously only once it's out of the manufacturers warranty. We have a petrol car that's remapped to 265bhp and a diesel that's remapped to 165, with the added torque low down in the revs the diesel always feels quicker and is a much more pleasant drive. Your 180 should be able to be safely taken to 220+, it doesn't sound a lot but the difference is literally like night and day.
A remaps about as good as it gets with a diesel. On a petrol, exhaust, intake, wider boost pipes, bigger intercooler then a remap you're looking at 300bhp+. Petrol is always better. The diesel will make a nice commuter but it won't be visiting Santa pod or going to track days.
But, at risk of attracting even more insults, I have to ask, if you prefer petrol and VW don't do one you like why not buy something else? Other makes of car are available...
I've had 4 now (Golf, Scirocco, Sharan, Passat). The Sharan was ****e, kept blowing head gaskets, Golf and Scirocco fine, the Passat (one of the last 1.9 diesels) is fine so far. But I have had other cars which have been just as good, and bad.
The Passat'll run for ever Plum, I have an eleven year old 1.9 Highline estate that's done 190k, obviously remapped, goes like **** off a stick! Unfortunately, due to getting a car with my new job, she'll be going on Gumtree shortly
We bought two cars from VW and no one could come close to matching the price we negotiated with them. It was actually cheaper than Skoda were willing to go for comparable (and worse) models and a far better all round deal. I got a Scirocco R Line the other is a Passat CC R Line. Both 184 TDI's, I the roc is a manual CC is dsg. Both tricked out with extras.
Yeah well as said it will make a nice stylish commuter. Will be nice being able to drive distances without it costing half a months salary and all. Still thinking of getting a second car to have as a weekend toy. Thinking one of the old S3 quattros, 225bhp 1.8t. A few hundred quid will make it fast as ****.
The S3's are very nice, I have the hairdressers version, before any other **** says it, a mk1 TT convertible, it's 13 years old and has only covered 14k, other than the remap I've never been tempted to mod it any further, it's as fast as **** as it is.
Yep that's the one Bob, you know your TT's. Funny you should ask because I am selling it due to lack of use, hence the low mileage. I was thinking that it'd be best now to hang on to it until the spring. I'm gonna want £5k for it as a bare minimum, and if she doesn't sell I'll just continue to take her out once a week.
