Another year without getting out and trying to photo the fireworks with my DSLR. Just had a new wide angle lens delivered today too which would have been perfect for trying out, but conditions are not great and I'm off to the Isle of Man tomorrow so I've got a lot to do at home before I go. Should get off of here really, then, shouldn't I?

    Nice one, General.

I need a decent pair of binoculars for next year when I'm at my caravan just up past Hexham. Do you know anything about binoculars?

Not a great deal mate. This was a useful site earlier this year when I was picking a pair of binos for the Kenyan safari a couple of months ago: http://www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/

Wex Photographic are a good place to buy them. I got these http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-celestron-trailseeker-8x42-binoculars/p1540886 and they are pretty decent. Certainly decent value as they have a tough build and reasonable optics (inc. a good 'eye relief' which helps for a 4 eyed bugger like me). Depends what you want to view as to magnification, etc. That reviews site will keep you right.

We've got some great views into the countryside (up to about ten miles) but also we have a large selection of wildlife within touching distance (deer, pheasants, owls, woodpeckers, rabbits.....even farmers with their shotguns out shooting pheasants). I imagine I need a decent all-round pair, hopefully for about £200. Cheers for the link, General.

How did your Kenyan trip go?

Apparently he is looking for a pair that can see through curtains. Which do you recommend?

A nice lightweight pair, so you can keep one hand free.

Outstanding mate. Everyone needs to go. ****ing animals everywhere - it was like being in an Attenborough documentary. I saw basically every major species many times and got to see a big wildebeest river crossing in the Maasai Mara which topped it all off. Thinking of going to Botswana/Namibia next time.
