Sam Allardyce keen on signing QPR captain Nedum Onuoha in January transfer window to boost Sunderland's defensive options

Sunderland are considering a January move for QPR defender Nedum Onuoha.

Manager Sam Allardyce wants to strengthen his defence but is wary of bringing in too many from the foreign market as he wants players with Premier League experience who can fit straight into his relegation battle.

Onuoha is among the names being discussed and has experience. He was relegated with QPR last season but Allardyce rates the 28-year-old and recognises the former Manchester City defender as someone who can cover a number of roles.

Sam Allardyce is keen to strengthen his defence at Sunderland during January transfer window

Onuoha was made captain of QPR in the summer and signed a two year contract extension tying him to the club until 2018 but a decent offer could get a deal done.

Allardyce is also keen on QPR striker Charlie Austin but the coveted 26-year-old may hold out for a free transfer in the summer instead.

Onuoham has spent a season at the Stadium of Light in the past when he joined on loan from Manchester City in the 2010-11 season and made 32 appearances for the Black Cats.

Seems like lazy journalism to me.

Yup, and also why would he want to go?

Club captain, and hopefully soon to be pushing for promotion, or a relegation battle and a defense leaking goals like a net leaks water!

Considering a lot of these transfer rumours are put out by players' agents to test the water, it might actually be a comment on how things are behind the scenes. Isn't his mum his agent?

Not before January at the earliest!
he was shocking under ramsey because ramsey wasnt a manager under warnock he could really do well,he was class in the old days,if we get a bid of 4 million for him then sell but dont let him go on the cheap,4 million in the pocket of neil warnock is a mighty war chest of money he could buy some good tallent with that money

Not so sure. Ned always seems to switch off at the wrong times. Just don't rate him.

I have always thought he was capable of doing more but Ned has never quite delivered. I doubt that the story is true and I doubt that Ned would want to go to one of the relegation favourites.
