News on Davies, Bruce, Aluko, Snodgrass and Diomande.... Curtis Davies is set to return to full training next week as he makes good progress in his recovery from a calf problem. The centre back picked up the injury during the 3-0 win against Ipswich Town last month and should be ready for action after the forthcoming international break. However, defensive partner Alex Bruce is likely to be out of action for two to three weeks with the hamstring problem that forced him off during Tuesday night’s win at Brentford. The defender is due to have a scan on the injury later today, but has been ruled out of Saturday’s home game against Middlesbrough. Sone Aluko is another who will miss out against ‘Boro. Aluko has been sidelined since pulling out of the pre-match warm-up ahead of the game against Birmingham almost a fortnight ago, although he is expected to make a return to full training next week. Robert Snodgrass continues to train well after a 14-month lay-off with a serious knee injury. The Scottish midfielder returned to full training in late October and is making good progress. And finally, Norwegian striker Adama Diomande is continuing his rehab following an operation on his groin in September and is around two to three weeks away from a return to full training. Nope, just you. Because that's a ****ing ridiculous thing to say considering he'll be fit by Christmas.
I saw him the other week making a reet cock up of reversing into a space outside the stadium just before kick off. He had a steward on waving and pointing duties to help him. He is real.
Who do we drop from the matchday squad to accomdate the injured players? Presumably Alex will find a way onto the bench ahead of Maguire (which is fine for now as form has shown he's doing well), but who will drop for Snodgrass? Hayden? Huddlestone? Surely not Diame or Maloney? Diomande is a bit easier as we currently have no striker on the bench and he'd probably get in there ahead of Aluko now anyway, but it'd mean very limited time for Luer. Harsh times ahead for some City players methinks.
For regular starts, yes. But we are in the Quarter Finals of the Milk Cup, with FA Cup to come. We are (just) top of the League and we will get injuries and we will get suspensions. We don't have a huge squad and it's likely that some of the young 'uns get a look in. Most will get some game time. If you were one of them, would you want to leave? Right now?
Encouraging that long term absentees appear to be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, giving us more options into the new year, there will be injuries, there will be suspensions, and potentially drop in form, its all building up nicely, have to say i can`t wait to see what Diamonde has to offer, and getting Snodgrass back onto the pitch is way beyond my hopes given the dire news about the lad only around two months ago when it was being suggested he wouldn`t play again. The only downside for me is Aluko, even when fit he hasn`t exactly set the place alight, but the sick note strikes again.
We're winning so we only drop for a reason, lack of form, rotation because of match build-up and injuries - Curtis was massively on form before his injury so he will return, in front of Bruce who will be in front of a junior Maguire, all based on form. Diomande should play when ready, you don't hide a potential game winner, Luer will keep for when needed, as will Snodgrass, who will show us how hungry Elmo is.
When these players return it will help motivate and encourage the current 11 to improve even more. Win win.
