They know what it's like to lose to us by 5 goals. That would come in handy and would restore confidence to this team as well.
You said there were 10 first team players missing I agree you had to play a totally different game from the first but also think Bayern did too (not because they had to), they sat deeper as if you still had the pacey players and hit you at will almost.
I guess what he meant was that those players are first team players, but overall the injuries have decimated our squad.
They were part of our first-team squad, so they were still part of our first-team. Instead of being a pedant, how about you actually address the crux of my post properly?
Bellerin out of the NLD. Utter bollocks. According to Wenger his injury was only a 'small problem' as well.
You could have brought all 7 of them on (without taking anyone off) at HT and probably still would have lost to be fair
That was a bad loss but I wasn't expecting much in the Champions league, let alone against Bayern away. But hopefully this poor loss will spur the players to whip our NL neighbours .
It will be if this affects our league form. We really had little chance in the CL anyway, our main piece of silverware is the league.
I didn't get to see the game but I very much expected a loss considering our injuries, particularly when half of our back four pulled out in the run up to the game. It's frustrating that we seem to struggle against most teams when we have to rely on 'rusty' squad players - which is a big issue, so against Bayern in Germany there was little chance. We just need to hope that we can beat Olympiakos by 2 goals or more as well as beating Dinamo. The score line is awful, and by the sounds of it we got schooled, but I'm not too disappointed as I'd already written this game off in my mind. Spurs is the important game!
What our season thus far has highlighted is our squad isn't good enough to challenge on all fronts. The backup players haven't been able to make the grade and our injuries are as innocuous as ever. Let's hope that the main guys out will make a speedy recovery, otherwise our league form will invariably suffer.
It is worrying how poor our squad players have performed isn't it, because on paper Debuchy (a French international, experienced Prem RB), Gibbs (English international, experienced Prem LB), Arteta (club captain, saavy operator and experienced player), Ospina (experienced international GK), Oxo (experienced England winger, good amount of Prem experience) and yet they've performed poorly in the main when called upon, despite looking good in previous seasons and/or for other teams. But I fail to see how we could be better prepared to cope for injuries in midfield (except the DM position) with the possible exception of selling half the team and replacing them (Wilshere, Ramsey, Rosicky, oxo, Arteta) with less injury prone players - a massive task and with no guarantee of success. As we have a huge number of talented midfielders, and at the start of the season Wilshere was left out in the cold and didn't get a look in, and then Rosicky was even further behind him!!! You can't keep 4 excellent players in reserve in every single position just in case you have an injury crisis like we are having at RW, as if you don't have that crises you have problems, and your squad would also be around 40-50!!!
I think Wenger underestimated just how costly conceding the first goal would be. Once Bayern get ahead they are the kings of capitalising. Was always going to be hard though missing soo many players.
