http://m.hulldailymail.co.uk/Body-S...uay-Shopping/story-28100726-detail/story.html After the news OLM brought a couple of months back, another store is closing in Princess Quay. How does the manager of the place keep her job? She always seems to be in the paper commenting on losing stores and never actually solving the problem. Her hands could be tied with rents and things but nothing at all seems to be happening. They need to go down the entertainment route. They've already got the cinema, bowling, laser quest, gym and restaurants. They need to add more restaurants and some more entertainment bits and bobs.
Can't always blame the management - there really is little reason to venture past McDonnalds when in town these days sadly - before St Stephens , Prospect cenner was on its knees , and for the 3rd or 4th time council planners have pulled the rug f I'm under traders feet by shifting the centre of gravity when it comes to shopping . Whitfriargate is now probably as important as George St for the non drinking shopper :/ In all seriousness who really ,in 2015 wants to shop between the two large retail centres for a pair of shoes ??? We need a reality check
It's not going to go into admin, owners CIT Group have got billions of pounds worth of property investments, they can handle the odd **** one. The discount outlet idea is their best option, they just need to get on and do it. The centre manager isn't actually responsible for lettings, nor will they have much involvement in the strategy, they mainly make sure that there's enough security and it's kept tidy.
The Top deck boutiques was the best shopping experience in Hull in the 90s - bored of the same old shops selling the same tat ...
Not true, or it certainly wasnt when I worked closely with her predecessor Tony Wilkes. He was responsible for all lettings and the entire future direction of the centre, with the owners leaving him completely to it. His idea was for the entire Harbour Deck to be food and bars, I was in his meetings with Nando's and Wagamama.
It's only good for Vue (easily the best cinema in town), which ironically got rid of the best thing about Prinny Quay before it, the top deck.
Love the idea of turning the 2nd floor to an outlet mall. Would bring some top brands to Hull and save me from going to frigging York
Knock the ****er down. Build Castle St on stilts out into the Humber and open Prinny Quay as a marina. Done
Well considering he won the industry's main prize for large sized shopping centre manager of the year for doing precisely that.... Isnt the owner running it a bit like Allam picking the team?
well the name of the award makes it a bit errmm flat ... but wasnt it "medium sized shopping centre on stilts in the Hull area" managers award ?
It's normal for a company with billions of pounds worth of commercial property to employ people who know how to run those properties. It's normal for those people to come up with the strategy for them, rather than the centre manager. I don't know the bloke, he might be a genius, though he left Prinny Quay in a far worse state than he found it (though I'm sure that was down to far more factors than who was the centre manager).
You said he wasnt responsible for a whole load of stuff that he was responsible for. That's all the point I was making. You know, sometimes you can accept when you're wrong.
No problem, I was wrong. Though based on how the centre looks today, I doubt they'll let a centre manager decide anything again.
For the record I personally think the guy is both an idiot and **** at his job but I wasn't on the judging panel.
