Yes. I remember the sense of excitement when Higgins joined and agreed to do an online Q & A session. Pity it didn't go too well
This is true of the entire internet, and has been so for sometime starting with the old style newgroups. There simply isn't any genuine debate; anyone proposing an opposite view point is abused or shouted down. The stock response of searching for an image and caption as a rebuttal is tired, lazy, and cheap; it's as if Socrates would have taken to drawing cartoons if only he'd known of the power of the pictures to win an argument. Then we have those who label people as being members of some "Brigade" or other, not to mention the "Am I missing something" ... er .... brigade. It's tiresome and agenda based. The thing is this mode of "debate" is now everywhere - the standard format on TV, radio is to present two polarised viewpoints and watch them scrap it out. There are shades of grey and difficulties is considering contentious issues; genuine objective debate and exchange of views requires the protagonists to challenge their own view internally, to really struggle.
The Internet has removed the ability of millions to debate in a sensible and appropriate way and don't even get me started on the quality of spelling and grammar.
Not at all, as far as I can see this place is open about what it is. A quick scan of the threads on here tell me that. If you don't like it you are free to **** off or not read it. Your choice fannyface.
Has it been three years yet since we started this site? Every month since then there has been someone saying it's going to the dogs, every single month we've had at least one making a protest. One day it might be true, but in terms of site visitors we are busier this week than we were last week and in fact ever - and we were busier last week than we were the week before. I'll naturally take a greater heed of the negative opinions when the growth shows signs of reversing - but until then...
It's just ER being an old fart. Since the site has grown and more people have started using GC his particular brand of racism and bigotry has been challenged and he doesn't like it. Of course, he's always got the likes of Huth and Trev to converse with.
We knew it was higgins because a members auntie knew his mum or something along those lines. He turned up pished and posted pictures of himself with a snooker cue up his arse. Some people were offended. the site took years to recover from such a high profile shock as people had been advertising a Q&A with John Higgins on other sites for weeks.
