This is either a masterstroke or a terrible decision.

I admit I know nothing about Garde but from what I've heard he has worked well with young players which is what a lot of Villa fans are counting on.

I've also heard a large part of this appointment was that it was recommended by Wenger.

Its a huge risk and I haven't a clue how it will go.

    Shocked Moyes isn't there.

I lived in Birmingham for three years. Birmingham fans were always sound. Villa were almost all ****s.

agreed on all counts. the Villians seemed to look down their noses at Blues fans, without realising that they both live in the same ****hole

I initially wanted Ancelotti but Klopp looks a good fit now and the win on the weekend was great.

We had gone really stale under Rodgers so it was the correct call.

I don't see him going for 3-4. Think he'll give it a real good go and if it doesn't work then he'll go.

You reckon you're in for the title?

i was hoping Klopp was going to take over when Wenger leaves. i like the enthusiasm and fun he brings as he looks like he enjoys his job. he likes his teams to play a pressing game and then attack at speed, and with the speed we have in the team it could be lethal.

don't know about title. it seems everyone [apart from City] is average this year, so if we can be better than average who knows. whoever finishes above City should win the title. mind you Chelsea Untied and City might spend £200m in january and we will spend £****all and that may make a difference to the title outcome.

Your last line is absolutely key.

I think you're in the title race but buy 2 players and you would stand a hell of a lot better chance.

    Doesn't like spending though.

You've certainly got as good a chance as you've had for a long time. If you don't have a wobbly spell, you'll be in the top two. I wouldn't like to bet on the outcome of it though.

Garde won't have enjoyed most of that, but he had an even worse start before the game:

Yep, Villa don't even know what his name is! <laugh>

Still, things can only get better, eh? Next up... City on Sunday.

for ****s sake you would think getting his name right would be simple - just shows what a shower of ****e Villa are.

cant wait to see my Villa supporting mate so I can the piss.

I thought Villa would snatch a point at the end as Spurs clearly too their foot off the pedal. Kane took 3rd goal well

It wouldn't be the first time a club has misspelt a sporting figures' name though <whistle>

an extra point for spotting the obvious mistake in the sky sports article too.

As for Remi, he's got his work cut out at Villa, they were woeful tonight.

  15. This thread is yet another massive wum-fail.
    <laugh>

PIXIE was so obviously hoping for a draw/loss for Spurs, tonight.

He'll be hoping that this thread will vanish down the list quickly, and that everyone will forget that it happened.

I think one of the things Garde will bring to Villa is some unity and sense of team work. His role at Arsenal was very much as an ambassador, helping players like Vieira, Petit and Anelka settle in and play the 'Arsenal' way. He was credited for a lot of the work, along with Wenger that bonded the French and English players into a unit that won the double. Villa looked extremely disjointed against the spuds and there wasn't really anybody on the pitch who looked like pulling them together as a team (although they could have nicked a point last night). Garde will want to instil that philosophy quickly and help them fight for each other.

Garde could actually do with somebody to step up and take the role that he took at Arsenal.
Someone to bridge the gap between the coach and the players without causing too many waves.

He was brought in at Lyon to help a club that had done well for years then fallen away, while cutting their budget, according to what I've read.
Introduced a lot of young players and turned their fortunes around, while they adjusted to other clubs having lots of cash.
That sounds ideal for Villa, so I can see why they've appointed him, but he's got a lot of work to do.
Their confidence is shot and they look very lightweight. Definitely carrying a few passengers, too.

It definitely looks like there are some players there who need shipping out. There are apparently lots of young French players that Garde was brought in to work with, that's fine but he still needs to ensure that they do t get relegated this season. Fortunately for him Sunderland and Bournemouth look destined for the drop this season, so as long as he can avoid 18th, then he'll have next season to build and make his own mark. Also next season sees a huge influx of tv money for the PL so he should have something to work with. I think he's got the coaching skills, but it's a big ask to turn it around at Villa. That said, they really are a club who should be up in the European places.
