So a panel of 3 unbiased experts sit down and review the decision, presumably watching endless re-runs of the incident, using camera angles not available to the referee, away from the heat of the moment, and without players hassling you and a partisan crowd and decide to overrule and that's the dodgy decision.

The thing is, with stuff like this, is that the 'experts' never seem to agree even with slo-mo etc.

It's a fast contact sport and lots of the rules are open to interpretation.

All this 'ball to hand/hand to ball' and 'was his arm in a slightly unusual angle' or 'was he flailing his arms to gain lift or was he smashing someone in the nose' malarkey shows how difficult these decisions are. The Coloccini incident was typical and, however poor the referee was, he was daft to barge into Fletcher in a derby atmosphere.

I'd have been gutted if it was at the other end but supporters get no say in what happens.

Fully agreed - sympathise a lot with the referee as he has to make a heat of the moment decision without benefit of slow motion replays and different camera angles. I am not complaining about the penalty, stupid thing to do by Coloccini, and actually looks more like a foul when you see it from the front. Just hurts more when its in a Derby. Don't think ability to review decisions would benefit game either - the new goal line technology takes care of whether its crossed the line, anything more would disrupt the game too much.

Me neither, Souness & Carragher couldn't agree and they were watching in a high tech studio ......... there'll always be controversy like this.

It's a bummer when you're on the wrong end but funny when it goes for you.

I remember watching daft Vic Halom attempting a diving header at Bolton and, when it was obvious he'd never reach, punching the ball into the roof of the net just for a laugh. He was laughing and did an exaggerated bow, the Sunderland end & players were all laughing and even some of the Bolton players ........ the ref pointed to the centre circle and all hell broke loose.

We laughed all the way home <ok>

I'm sure it isn't, like ourselves you have little to cling onto at present so a derby victory (the 6th in a row is bound to be a big thing). However the mackems and some others continually making this **** floater resurface at the top of the thread list is boring. Sooner or later it will have to have its back broke with the toilet brush i.e. closed.

I haven't forgotten but people like Shearer said it was a penalty whereas other 'experts' said it wasn't.

The 'experts' on the panel may well be as unfit to make these judgements.

As it's now over a week ago, and people are still bumping this thread, it shows how difficult it is to be a referee.

Yeah but I'm not going to start a new thread to answer Comms question - that would be ******ed <ok>

I'm sure whoever Sam is, is a big lad and has gone there knowing someone will try to give him a booting. If you go on the WUM you have to expect a little abuse. Its like Smug and Bri. Both openly on the WUM, they are going to get abuse over here. No harm done. Well bar Sid then getting the brunt of Bri's frustration at the abuse and subsequent modding <laugh>

If you are blasting off after WUMMING, you are doing it wrong in my humble opinion.

We have a system called pm's on our board, cuts out loads of shyte <ok>

BTW, in all honesty, I didn't ever come on here just to WUM, it was always banter in one form or another.
I'm a Sunderland supporter which is enough, on it's own, to wind people up.

It was only when people, including Mods, started with the endless infantile incest stuff etc, that I thought I was wasting my time. When I mentioned it to one of your Mods he banned me then, when it suited him to act the big man, he 'magnanimously' wiped it 'for the good of the board'.

You reap what you sow mate.

Hmm I think your wumming days even pre-date this site mate, so you will struggle to convince me otherwise. Wumming, banter, is there much difference between the two? I was a member from BBC606. Personally I don't mind, all are welcome for me (probably why I did **** all when I was mod).

Incest stuff has been around the banter/wumming stuff since year dot. Its a much ingrained subject for Norfolk people for instance. Nothing to get upset about in my opinion. Certainly no more boring or childish than endless 5-1 or 6 in a row comments. Most banter is pretty childish, 90% lacks intelligence too. The point is if you get a rise out of someone because they find a certain subject unacceptable or annoying (i.e. incest, families, results, bad decisions etc) then you are probably going to continue on that line.

I'm the wrong person to ask because there is very little I see as unacceptable. I wouldn't see it as any different to life in general. There are times when I wouldn't make a certain joke. I'm sure there is some subject I find unacceptable for jokes? I remember saying to Rog during the cross board thread days, that my mother was dead (she's still alive and well the old battleaxe), after he had said he had been booshing her and my sister (I haven't got). He had rage about me stooping to this level for about 3 years. I don't think he ever quite understood contradiction of his rage <laugh>

I also hear people whinge on both our board and the mackem one about how the other board is like the gestapo with regard to bans, and you get a raw deal if you are not one of them. Of course you ****ing do, its their board and they'll protect their own because its those folk who keep that board alive.

I agree you do reap what you sow. If you come on for banter or wumming, you will get short shrift. As long as you know this, and can deal with the result then crack on. Otherwise its probably not for you.

No offence mate but my interest in convincing you is probably zero much like the amount I care about a ban.
