Oh well, that's it then.... By the way. I heard that interview. Dave didn't rant, wasn't angry, didn't say it was unacceptable. What Jimmy case also said in that conversation was that Vic maybe be a bit thick, but that position often has players picking up lots of yellows and its a fine line to tread. Jimmy case knows a hell of a lot about football too. Shall we play "comments from ex-football people" tennis? You got your argument in the end didn't you?
All comes down to footballers being people and not the creatures of perfection that we wish they were. We've all done something and thought immediately I wish I hadn't done/said that.
The first 10-15 minutes of the second half is arguably the important period during a game of football because this is when the pace and tone for the rest of the game will be decided. Lose the battle to dictate the flow (which we did), and you've got to reassess and go from there. We had two options, (i) try and get back on the front foot, which, the way Bournemouth were playing, would have been extremely difficult and risky, or (ii) just sit deep and nullify an already pretty toothless attack for 30 mins. We chose the latter. Three points in the bag. I'd stop expecting to see perfection every time you watch Saints play, because we are never going to be Real Madrid.
I'm going to add Tom one more thing. Please don't ever bother telling us it's hard for a referee again, or that he maybe couldn't quite see the angle or what was going on. Heavens above that a player you support does something unacceptable but a poor old referee can make a genuine mistake and be forgiven. I'll take your stance on all future referees. They get one wrong, it's totally unacceptable. Ok?
Oh you two! Get a room will you As it happens, I did Google the rules regarding yellow cards after Mane was sent off (which if you bothered to read my posts you would know ) and in the case of a second yellow in a match, the yellow count stays the same, with the red being the only sanction.
I could flip that the other way round. You hammer referees every chance you get - why should players get an easier ride for making errors?
Maybe it's because we pay money to watch talented football players playing the beautiful game, not to see talentless douchebags ruining it for everyone.
3 points, 2 great goals and a clean sheet is what the record will show. Will anyone really still be saying at the end of the season "remember how poor we were 2nd half against B'mouth?" Or making a meal of Vic getting sent off? Yes they are valid talking points in the context of this match but in the grand scheme of things we are still unbeaten in 5 and climbing the table. Let's not forget too this was a derby game, it's like some people here didn't even see the Tyne-Wear derby last week to understand it can create that bit more fight and passion in an underdog (who then incidentally ship 6 goals a week later!)
I just want Ron to have a quiet word with him. For the record, I didn't find what he did unacceptable, just very avoidable and silly.
I knew I had read something like that recently! That's what I thought, thanks Channon. Changing the subject slightly, I must say, now we are unbeaten in 7 games and slowly inching up the table place by place, this is far better than last season's tactic. When we were in the top 3 for weeks on end you just knew it was only a matter of time and pending injury to a key player before we started to slip. Now we are creeping, barely noticed by the media, towards the top 4. We have a better team than Liverpool, and a better manager than Chelsea or Man Utd. My hopes of a good place this season are beginning to stir.
Let's not play the derby card here as the only fans who were treating it as a derby were Bournemouth fans.
I've been watching Saints since before Mick Channon knew how to write out a betting slip, and I ain't seen perfection yet. I don't remember too many occasions in all those years, when we had so little of the ball as we did for 45 minutes yesterday. Apart from the 2nd half against Leicester, that is. I know it's the result that counts. But I think we had more possession when we got beat 6-1 at Highbury just before the FA Cup final.
I don't see why you would use that as an argument. We gave up a bit of possession yesterday in order to sit deep and nullify their threat. They could have passed it around all day long if they had wanted, far as I'm concerned. We had a cushy 2-0 lead.
Blimey you two, even Tintin and I have calmed down now. He's coming round for tea with me and Jordy later
