As a business Ashley has been great for NUFC.

As a football club Ashley has been terrible for NUFC.

Mike Ashley is the Toon Messiah.

People should learn to be more grateful for what he does for Newcastle United... <whistle>

Anyone have any idea how much it's costing to put undersoil heating in at the training ground? That's probably a lot of money not to invest back into the club.
It's not all about who we buy is it? When that work is complete and the team can actually train in the winter on a pitch that isn't as hard as concrete or covered in snow we should see an improvement I reckon and probably less injuries.

It's something that should have been done as soon as we re located to new training facilities but we should suffer less injuries during the thick and fast period of the season. Good move by the club <ok>

It's a great move by the club. Sadly most people want to see the money thrown out on players, regardless of whether they're worth it or not.

Tash, could you please answer this question! You avoided answering it yesterday.

Also could you justify your comment that Ashley makes loads of money by selling our best players?

Seconded. I wish we'd all agree that selling a player here and there only means losing less money, or spending it differently. Damn that greedy owner for giving up a couple hundred million pounds he could have spent elsewhere...

I've often wondered if Ashley would've been better off just saying that Cabaye and Marveaux cost £20m between them, seems like 'spending the Carroll money', regardless of what its on, is far more important than good signings and sensible purchases like improving the training ground.

That is the sad truth. Had the club actually spent £20m buying Ba, Cabaye and Marveaux half the people who are complaining on this thread (and the dozens like this we have had the last few weeks) would not be complaining, yet we would be worse off as a club. The obssession with spending the £35m is incredible!

Ashley's just a tight twat! When they say they're putting in undersoil heating at the training ground he's actually blagged a deal to dump old radiators under the training ground as a landfill <ok>

I agree I do find some of the comments on these boards regarding Ashley quite astounding. I hate the ****. I'm just not sure what spending the whole time slating him achieves? Some of things I read do make me cringe though. Like when folk say we could have folded or dropped through the leagues if it wasn't for him. Bullshit in my book, if it wasn't him someone else would have taken us on. I'm sick of this hypothetical bull getting reeled out time and time again with regard to Ashley. No one can say with any certainty what would have happened so I don't think it's worth speculating. When he bought the club backed by a vision for how he saw it developing, he took on responsibility for our finances for better or worse. Debt? His own fault he didn't know the extent of that, I have no sympathy. He gets thanked only once this in my book, and then he judged from that point forward against the vision he presented. I'd find it very hard to understand if anyone thought he has done a particularly good job! They've had a shocker and to me he now seems to want out. To get out he needs to sort out the finances, improve the club infrastructure and await an upturn in the economy. (the latter is not a necessity but helpful) In sorting our finances he'll put is in a much better position for the future. He also needs to maintain PL status so he'll take fewer risks with the make up of the squad. I doubt it'll ever be massively progressive under him but I doubt it'll ever be relegation battles. (this cannot be guranteed anyway because of the strength of the league) This new approach has had recent positives for the club with better infrastruture being put in place (training ground). We'll also need to sign players who he can sell for a profit. Therefore they have to be good.

All in all, he's not the best owner and I'll never forgive him for his treatment of our fans and shocking PR for the club. But it could be a lot worse, and his exit strategy and our well being are locked together so I'm not too worried because if there is one thing we do know, he likes his money. I see no benefit in spending the time moaning about him and being generally negative, the players deserve better for a start and it achieves little. Equally we owe him **** all and I wish folk would stop beating that drum just as much.
