Surman will for sure get a good reception. There will be a young lad stood next to me who will be clapping louder than most. Surman was his favourite player and he was heartbroken when he was sold.
Not our main rival, but the fact that we'd be seriously pissed to lose this suggests there is an edge....be like losing to your snotty little brother. We would certainly dislike them more if we lost....so I suggest we don't.
http://afcbchimes.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/koeman-will-feel-he-has-edge-on-howe.html A blog by a Bournemouth fan...written in hope more than expectation and an interesting view on spelling our players' names Says that Howe is on a learning curve in the EPL the same as the squad...I used to say that about Nigel...can't expect a manager to land running when experiencing their first time in a top league.
http://eplindex.com/72552/southampton-v-bournemouth-preview-team-news-stats-key-men.html EPL index preview of the game....2 errors...the writer thinks Mane is not available and seems to suggest that we beat United. Does think we will win though.
I have huge respect for Eddie Howe. I'd like him as a future Saints manager and I would like him as a future England manager; I rate him that highly. He is incredibly composed, behaves impeccably, plays the game in the right way and seems to go about his job with class and dignity.
Agree on all counts FLT. The perfect progression for him would be to move to a "top" club, win the CL, then take the England job and win the World Cup or Euro Cup, then move to Saints after Ronald has tired of winning trophies with us.
http://afcbchimes.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/george-weahs-cousin-is-glad-of-el.html Q and A with George Weah's Cousin on a Cherries site. Saints fans are polite aren't they? Managed not to laugh hysterically when asked if Boruc was still regarded as one of our best keepers.
He does, but will the billionaire Russian begin to get frustrated with him? Obviously we know that their current predicament is hardly Eddie's fault, but you know what owners can be like. It would be a tragedy for Bournemouth if Demin did sack Howe, of course. Up until this season he had an overall 50% win record at AFCB, which is not to be sneezed at.
This so-called rivalry does surprise me though. Almost every Saints fan I speak to about AFCB want them to stay up and be successful. There is none of that wanting them to be relegated and disappear without trace. Understandably, we want them to finish below us, but personally, I wouldn't care if it was by only one or two places, as long as we finish where we need to be. My AFCB supporting Rambler friend still walks up to me, when we meet, with a slight snarl and then remembers that I have nothing but good vibes about AFCB and he backs off and becomes friendly. Odd, very odd. He's gets very confused that I wish them well. Mind you, he said to me a few weeks back that we have a bloody good side, so I think the good vibes are beginning to break down the resistance.
"snotty little brother" I like that. This is how I feel too. Don't see them as real rivals and would be happy enough to see them do well this season but losing to them is not on.
Yeah, this. Thing is I *really* want them to do well because I really like them, their style and their manager. It does seem an awful lot of one way traffic with this.
He has proved himself as a good manager, in lower leagues, and at Bournemouth. I don't remember him being as good in his brief spell at Burnley, although it wasn't shabby either. I think the next few months will really test him, as a manager. Does he continue to play an attacking style, after conceding 10 goals in two league matches, or does he adapt his style of play and make the team more difficult to beat? Given his injury list, to key players, it will be interesting to see how he copes.
It's hard to understand their apparent dislike of us. I was going to say it may be to do with being below us for so many years has made them resent our relative success, but even when we were both in Div 1 the animosity from some was obvious. They don't really have a local derby to look forward to, so that may be why they are keen to create some extra rivalry. Our attitude to them may change though if they beat us tomorrow.
I'm not sure really - I don't look down on them at all. I just think they're a good club doing things the right way and I hope they do well. There's no animosity there at all. If that's perceived somehow as condescension toward them, then honestly that issue lies with the person inferring that. I don't think anyone (well there's probably one or two, but as a general rule) thinks of them as "little old Bournemouth" or something like that. After all, it annoys us enough when we're condescended to by the press/"big" clubs. Yes we've had some more recent success, and have historically done better. However we, as well as anyone out there, know full well how those things can turn around. Of course I want us to beat them as I would any opposing club, but I want them to do well other than against us probably more than any other club. If we're not going to win the league, I'd like them to!
