Close... Sabermetrics (frequently called moneyball after a book/movie based on a baseball team applying the approach).

The idea being you can better tell who to sign based on stats primarily rather than just old fashioned scouting.

You were looking at the stats of a 19 year old and writing him off. What stats do you expect from such a young player?

Dalglish scouted Suarez, his impressive stats in Holland only made him appear on the radar.

The entire PL was interested in Bale, as even a partially sighted kopite could see the lad was special from a young age.

You're talking as if the fabled 'moneyball' unearthed these gems from nowhere, what a crock of ****e <laugh>

    Who's written him off?

    He's 21 btw.......

All I've said is based on what I've seen of him and his overall career stats combined, he aint all that & certainly not a £20m player. You may disagree, that's your prerogative, but it doesn't make my opinion wrong.

But we signed him when he was 19/20.

We didn't sign him for what he had done up to that point I.e score x goals etc. We bought him for his potential Based on his performances.

You disregard his performances because he simply doesn't have stats to back him up.

Benteke passed fit for Chelsea clash
    David Lynch
Liverpool striker Christian Benteke is available for selection for Saturday's clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Jürgen Klopp has revealed.
The No.9 missed out on the midweek Capital One Cup victory over AFC Bournemouth after sustaining a knock to his knee in training, but is ready to return to action at the weekend.
He will be not be joined by Daniel Sturridge or Kolo Toure in the squad for the trip to the capital, however, as the pair continue their rehabilitation from knee and hamstring problems respectively.
When asked to provide an update on the Reds' injury situtation in his pre-match press briefing, the manager replied: "It's better than yesterday.
"Christian trained quite normally together with one of our fitness coaches and it was good, he was okay. He's prepared for tomorrow, I would say, so that's the only thing that changed.
"Kolo has not the most serious injury but it's enough that he cannot play tomorrow. No Daniel [Sturridge]."
Toure is the latest player to join an injury list that includes long-term absentees Danny Ings and Joe Gomez, captain Jordan Henderson and Sturridge among others.
But Klopp gave short shrift to the suggestion that the club's medical department could shoulder any of the blame for a string of fitness problems that can only be put down to poor fortune.
"I think [the medical department] is one of the departments that works perfect," he insisted.
"I'm not sure about [everybody] because I've not met [everybody] but everything is fine. Everything is the same with Chris [Morgan] and his team so there is no doubt from my side, after two and a half weeks.
"If you have a look on the kind of injuries we have then you know it's nothing [to do] with the medical department. It's because of hits [impacts] or other things.
"It's normal in football that nobody wants to wait but we have to wait because recovery needs time. We have these two guys with Ingsy and Gomez they need a long time but I can see Henderson and [Jon] Flanagan they are closer but not on the pitch in this moment.
"Flanagan is on the pitch but he needs time after a long, long journey with his knee injury but he looks good.
"These boys and girls in the medical department they work so hard. We have to wait for [injured players] but we have to work with the other guys that's how football works."

Then you should fire the scout who put his name to him being worth the amount that you paid for him imo.

Signing young players on 'potential' is of course more down to subjective opinion as opposed to hard data. The knack is having the right people doing it for you I suppose. We took a punt on Stones, £1m down and £2m in performance related installments. We took a similar one with Galloway and both have paid off.

However, it's not an exact science as developing players can (and often do) falter along the path, the skill is picking the right ones and paying the right price.

  16. Dalglsh as publicly stated Suarez was Comolli's guy. Dalglish knew about Luis and wanted him too though

Bale was sought after whilst at Saints. He was a failure at Spurs until they had a injury crisis

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defender Branislav Ivanovic will again be missing, according to Jose Mourinho, while forwards Pedro and Diego Costa face late checks.

Lets hope Pedro and Costa are out too.
