https://bdaily.co.uk/business-in-sp...bs-over-fraser-forster-and-jermaine-defoe-tr/ Don't know if you can read above as it is a bit dark. It seems that when players are transferred internationally all the clubs involved in their youth development are entitled to a 5% share of fee. Apparently few people at little clubs know this, but lawyers have gained compensation for grass roots football by negotiating for the money due from the transfers of Fraser Forster and Jermain Defoe.
Does that mean Saints were entitled to a share of the Bale -> Real record transfer fee? (share of ~£4mil) Seems a bit weird.
I think the bigger clubs knew about this money, but its the small clubs that needed to be aware of it....hence this match arranged to advertise their rights. A few thousand could be a lot to a small club. Knew I'd seen it somewhere: Saints got money for youth training Bale. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/10647068.Saints_bank___2m_over_Bale/
Sky have picked up on this. The two teams that benefitted from transfers of Jermaine Jenas (Senrab) and Forster (Wallsend) played a game to advertise this compensation scheme. The manager of Senrab said they came form a deprived area of East London and have used the money to buy kit and equipment. Wallsend said it is crumbs off the rich man's table, but very important for grassroots clubs. Only applies to international transfers and teams have only 18 months to apply for it.
Looked up Senrab...they have also produced John Terry, Sol Campbell, Ledley King and Dario Gradi. John Terry recently gave an undisclosed sum to keep the club going...hats off to him. Wallsend of course also produced Shearer.
I don't like the 18 months to apply for it. FA, UEFA and FIFA all have computers don't they? Should be easy for them to automatically track and pay out to the little boys.
I thought that, though a few years down the line the clubs may have gone under or changed names or even worse split into different sides. Not beyond the wit of man surely.
Good point well made!! The point was it shouldn't have a time limit and the small dog shouldn't have to apply, it should be automated.
