Sunderland have a first chance to develop some momentum this season and start putting points on the board. The Black Cats will carry some confidence into Sunday's clash having displayed an organised and clinical performance over North East rivals Newc6astle. But it's important to not get carried away as difficulties in retaining possession were still abundantly clear.

With this in mind I think we can expect another counter attacking philosophy to be installed at Goodison Park this weekend. Big Sam has plenty of work still to do solving many of our on field problems that it stands to reason that in an away fixture against tough opposition that little will change in the way we set up. There's always a worry when allowing opponents possession, especially as Big Sam will be facing a defensive headache following injuries in the derby clash.

    Match Appointments

    Referee: Andre Marriner

    Assistants: S Ledger & R West

    Fourth Official: M Jones

    Team news

    Everton

Phil Jagielka could miss the rest of the year after picking up a bad knee injury.

Steven Pienaar, Leighton Baines, Muhamed Besic and Tony Hibbert are all struggling to be fit for Sunday.

    Sunderland

John O'Shea and Younis Kaboul are both likely to miss this weekend's after picking up injuries last Sunday, though Big Sam has confirmed he does not expect lengthy lay offs. Ola Toivonen suffered recurrence of a knee injury after being rushed back.

Fabio Borini is expected to be available following his derby day absence.

Mind you, I've removed the editorial admin options. Doubt they'd work if anyone clicked them but best be safe.

    Wes Brown and Seb Coates....gulp

Or is it time to what Jacky Rodwell can do at the back?

Can't see anything other than a post derby humbling. 4/5-0.

    As for the team

    -----------Pantilimon------------
    Yedlin----Çoàtes--Brown--Jones
    ------M'Vila-Catts--Larsson-----
    Johnson----Fletcher-------Lens

He's only back in training today. Wouldn't put him back into the team straight away personally

I'd have him in the squad if possible. A run out of 10-15 minutes might be a start, depending on where he is with his recovery.

If he's just back in training today, there's no way we should risk him tomorrow. He could just end up out for even longer if he's thrown back in too early.

Wasn't one of our recent managers accused of doing just that, and we ended up with half of them on the physio's bench? O'Neill, Keano, Mrs Doubtfire? Sure it was one of them.

I think it's written in the stars, you're going to give away a soft penalty and Kaboul will be sent off for it.

Now I've said it, it won't happen.

    You're welcome.

Difference is Marriner is the ref! He hates us historically! I can honestly see him sending one of ours off for what Ayoze Perez did in the box against us (when he went to overhead kick the ball and he kicked Billy Jones in the face) - complete accident and only wanted the ball - no malice but Marriner will send someone off for it!

    Course it is! Duh <doh>

I still think if he's just back in training today though, that this weekend's just turned up a little too early.

Everton used to be a real bogey team for us, but lately we've done OK. Be a shame to get twatted after the derby win, but I think we can hold our own.
