Darrell Clarke has confirmed an interest in highly-rated Dundalk midfielder Richie Towell and will send Steve Yates over to Ireland to have a look at him. Dublin-born Towell, 24, has an impressive scoring record of 41 goals from 95 appearances for the League of Ireland side after starting his career at Scottish Premier League club Celtic. He only made one senior appearance whilst at Celtic Park and also spent a 30-game spell out on loan at Hibernian before returning to his homeland in 2012. Towell scored 23 times so far this season to help Dundalk claim a second successive title and will be attempting to help them complete a league and cup double when the League of Ireland comes to an end with the Aviva Cup final against Cork City on November 8. The midfielder, who trained with both Cardiff City and Blackpool last winter, still has ambitions to represent his country at full international level after featuring at various youth levels – but may have to consider a move back across the Irish Sea to make that dream become a reality. "Richie has a good pedigree and is the sort of player who might fit the mould we are looking for," said Clarke. "We have heard some good things about him, but we want to have a look for ourselves and that is probably the next step in the process. "Steve (Yates) has been out and about looking at several potential targets since taking up his new role recently and I'd anticipate that he will probably going over to Ireland to cast an eye over Richie at some point in the future. "That is where we are at with it and anybody who says we are any further ahead in the process or talking about deals or wages at this moment in time would be jumping the gun." http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTO...tory-28078306-detail/story.html#ixzz3q04ZF9Ug
Cant see him coming to us if he can score goals like that, 41 goals in 95 appearances, somebody higher up the pyramid will surely take a chance on him either that or we will leave it to long and missout
Or he could be loaned out like so many other hopefuls....But I hope it works out for him because he looks a bright prospect.
Well old timer, you could be right. Apparently (going by gas guzzler) he will soon be joining us on loan! http://www.gasheads.org/thread/4588/new-loan-signing-brighton
CJS thanks for the Brighton link above, it gave me the opportunity to smile when the poster Cabbagepatchblue enquired whether we would be able to beat Stanley
