It would be different if it was transparent....no big fanfare...FIFA committee just appoint who they want and share it round the world. It's the highly expensive pretend selection system that stinks.
I bet we don't try and get our bid money back, no doubt a % of it was used to attempt to bribe people to vote for us anyway
Before the WC vote, Jack Warner complained that the FA weren't generous enough. I was surprised that no one made a big thing of it at the time, because he was admitting that he liked gifts before all this stuff came out.
With all these admissions and accusations has anyone considered what actions should be taken against the bribers themselves? The countries involved at the very least should be disqualified for a long period from from taking part in world cup games. As well as being banned even longer from being allowed to bid for the right to stage the final events. Forgive me if this has been mentioned elsewhere.
Yeah I remember when he came out with that. People didn't make a big thing of it I think because a lot of people still think we're whiter than white. Which more than likely isn't the case at all. I'm glad Warner is finally getting his comeuppance though. Horrible prick. Don't see that happening, too many countries involved. Would FIFA want a WC without say Germany, England or Brazil?
David Dein talking on Sky with very strong words...he thinks FIFA should be dissolved and a new governing body set up as FIFA is too corrupt to be allowed to continue. He spoke of England's bid for the World Cup...said it was demonstrated to be the best bid by neutral audit, he had no warning that we wouldn't at least make the second round, and that 50% of those involved in the vote have now been suspended. I'm taking the fact that we were outsiders and didn't know what was going on as proof we were not involved in this corruption in FIFA. Dein said he had these men as guests in his house over a 2 year period and no one said or hinted at anything...obviously we were known to be clean. Not saying that mud can't be stirred...no business can do anything without a few little sweeteners, but big difference between the odd goodie bag and several million euros. Remember the FIFA investigation into possible corruption was described as fiction by the man who had produced it. We were one of only two countries mentioned specifically for wrongdoing....laughable when you consider what has come out since.
FIFA needs to publish Garcias report in total. He seemed independent so if anyone was going to find the dirt he would. Not sure he really go to the bottom but maybe the Swiss and the US lawyers will. The save your own ass time seems like it might be coming as we see more and more info coming out now.
The trouble with corruption is how it spreads...it becomes accepted within a dirty organisation and draws people in.
In a corrupt organisation, good people are often kept down....because cheats don't want an honest man looking over their shoulders.
...and think that's enough explanation, you mean.? Staggers me how they thought they were going to get away with it.
