Convicted criminal Stephen French spoke out about his VIP Anfield visit insisting 'Nobody will stop him' going where he wants.

He wrote on Facebook: “From the sweatbox to the directors' box in nine months - only the FrenchMan can do s*** like that.”

The notorious former drug dealer, once nicknamed The Devil, was seen sitting next to Liverpool FC stars at last night’s Capital One Cup tie against AFC Bournemouth.

The appearance of French, 55, who was once one of the most feared and brutal gangsters in Britain, at the match set social media alight.

After the game, the former kickboxing champ took to Facebook to vow: “I attend the match when I want and nobody will stop me.”
French, who was released from a three-year prison sentence earlier this year, said he used a “media connection” to obtain a prime seat in a corporate box.

He told his Facebook followers : “I will never apologise for using my media connection to attain an allocated seat in the box to watch Jurgen Klopp win his first home game - something I dreamed of when I was I locked down. I loved it.

“From sweat box to director box in nine [months], only The FrenchMan can do s*** like that.”

Through “taxing” the richest and most powerful crimelords in the UK in the late 80s and early 90s, French reportedly netted over £20m before claiming to have seen the light in a Road to Damascus-style conversion.

But he was jailed in 2013 for pistol-whipping a businessman and dumping a replica gun and a machete into the Mersey, reports the Liverpool Echo.

French wrote a 2,200-word piece on Facebook after the match, in which he spoke of his “friendship” with John Barnes, and told how “schoolboy hero” Ian Callaghan “grasped my hand and said ‘hello Frenchie lad’”.
He also told of how he stopped going to football matches in the 1970s as a teenager over fears of racist attacks.

But he said: “I returned to my beloved Anfield in the mid-eighties now as a fully developed young black man who could go anywhere he felt like in this city and woe betide the racists that tried to stop me.

“They would be rendered unconscious with a wicked left hook.”

French said his season tickets at Anfield lapsed while he was behind bars.

He said: “While in prison I would follow my team avidly on the radio every week and I longed to feel the hairs go up on the back of my neck when 50,000-plus Scousers sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

“I was determined to be present when Klopp notched up his first Anfield victory, this is a man I have wanted to see in charge of Liverpool from at least two seasons ago.”

French, a psychology graduate, continues - accusing the press of scaremongering over his appearance at Anfield.

He said: “They attempt to make a simple activity of spectating a sport into something sinister.

“I would like to thank them because they have helped take my Facebook following to over 2,500 and also, according to my good lady, I was trending on Twitter [...] because of your clumsy acrimonious attempt to further assassinate my character in the psyche of my fellow beloved Liverpudlians.

“I love my team Liverpool, I love my city Liverpool, I made my daughter wear her Liverpool kit till she was a teen.

“The only thing I do not like is the half-a-dozen people who run this city and using their media outlets and funny handshakes to hood-wink the broader communities.

“They fear me because I speak the truth that they wish to keep hidden.

“Love me or hate me I don’t really care.”

French says he is no longer ‘The Devil’ but now a reborn Christian called ‘The Fighting Preacher’, who has “had a positive impact on thousands of young men up and down the country”.

He issued an apology “to the whole of Merseyside” after being jailed in 2013, telling the ECHO: “I pistol-whipped a punk and I believe it saved my life.”

The armed siege to accost him saw parts of the city centre cordoned off as stunned locals and tourists watched on.

French has become something of a pseudo-celebrity from appearances on Ross Kemp On Gangs and Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men.

A channel on micro-video website Vine featuring short clips of French has had more than 350,000 views.
