It's dreary stuff Diego. I can't see how anyone can disagree. It's turgid. Maybe and hopefully it will prove to be successful but it's ****e to watch.
How high are we talking then? Were also playing better too, especially defensively. Last season we were being cut open a little too often. I have the bar set at us being Champions come May as it goes, though I would be happy if we are part of the race and not out of it with months to go.
As a supporter of 50+ years it's not what I am used to, that being said I am happy enough with the way we are controlling games and expect us to win every time we play. The squad is now good enough to beat anybody and I can only see a bright future. LvG will never play the fast expansive football we all want, but he has built a squad that will win something under his tenure and will go on to be fantastic with the next manager.
You do like to take things to an extreme don't you. I never said we didn't used to play attacking football, I said it wasn't always the case. We were always willing to play dirty and get stuck in or grind out results. But you knew that anyway
I can understand that some fans are unhappy about the style of football being played is boring to watch. They have been used to the attacking full throttle Style of Fergie. But LVG is LVG and he was never going to ape fergie. Moyes tried and failed. United knew what they were getting when they employed him. First he had to stop the slide and second he had to establish the team in top 4. To also do it in flamboyant style was always a bonus. I will expect the next manager in 18months time to do that but not LVG. It is like purchasing a Chihuahua and complaining that it is useless at stopping burglars. He just doesn't do flair no holds barred attacking footie.
The pace will come, on a consistent basis eventually. But as we've all seen over the years, when in full flow, its a high risk strategy involving the whole team as an attacking unit. Sides who play this style tend to leave very few back so need to be defensively sound. Other wise you can be exposed to the counter as Real Madrid showed Bayern a few years ago or we showed Arsenal, time and time again. Or funnily enough, Arsenal showed us a few weeks back. I think van Gaal will extend his contract as the job will take a year or so longer than hoped. I too believe he will have success with us during his tenure but his legacy will be felt further into the future. At the end of the 13/14 season, most of us would have looked at 3 years as a fair amount of time to get back on top, were not even half way through year two and you have to say, at the very least, on course. While we've had some boring displays we've also had some brilliant ones. We embarrassed Liverpool at Anfield, battered City and were never out played by a rival last year, we've already played a few this time round and bar the Arsenal game, we've done well in all of them again.
And what if we dont win anything under his tenure? I'm also reading a lot about building a squad. Building a squad is one thing, what you do with them is another. Also modern football is very fluid and I dare say the squad we have today may not be there in Sept 2017.
Of course we've ground out results previously. Not every game though! All we need to do is up our intent and tempo and let the opposition worry about us, rather than casing the joint for the first hour of very game. Especially at home, we've got the players so there's no excuse there. Let's show more intent, that's all. The current football is not entertaining. It's not what people are familiar with when they think of United. I'm being overly romantic or misty eyed, I'm starting a fact.
Sorry, your squad is not good enough to score past our **** defence, or Boro. This squad is most certainly not good enough for Man United. Martial was a good back up striker to bed in for the future, but who's the main one? You haven't got a striker! You have an old, fat tub of **** with ass hair tattooed to his scalp who shares his name with a teenage prodigy of years gone by, but with none of that clever ****. I agree with those advocating signings. 4 more quality signings would do. You need a right winger, a CB, a more dynamic midfielder (a Yaya Toure type to sit next to Carrick), and a world class striker.
I had no great expectations of this match as soon as I saw the starting line up. Not as bad as arsenals but close.
Bloody hell, just what we need. Another amateur's viewpoint. The squad is fine. We need a better manager. One that plays expansive attacking football instead of death by a thousand passes.
LVG is a great manager, he'll eventually get it working. I would love Man United to play closer to the Netherlands style under Van Basten... But you ain't got the players and have gone down another route in terms of the style that's been brought in. Get another manager and you'll have to start all over again. Unless that manager is Fergie.
I disagree, and I say that as aomeone who's seen this United side a few times since LVG took over. Defensively we're fine and that starts from the goalie and goes up to midfield. Mata has the best record of anyone playing on the right wing in the prem. Our midfield is the best we've had in 4 years. Herrera, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger. We've scored more goals from midfield in the last 14 months than we did in Fergie's last 4 seasons. These players are quality. What they lack is a manager who can let them off the reigns and let them express themselves. What they do on the pitch is what LVG is telling them to. Fear of losing possession drives our performances. That comes from the guy at the top. You're a bit more colourful with your language about Rooney than me but I agree with the sentiment. He's finished.
Keep it about our good start in the league. Please start a new thread to act devastated about the league cup. Thank you.
All things considered, that was years ago. We've got 50% more points than the last 2 seasons and 12/13 was funnily enough, one of Fergie better starts anyway. He was notorious for starting slowly. Fergie believed in one thing, points. Getting as many as you can while not firing on all cylinders separated the champions from the rest. You should know all about that, being a Chelsea fan. All those points when you barely play football.
