The amount of gray in it means they should be explaining the thought process behind their decision. Big Sam after the match nailed it. Stop giving red cards for 'last man' fouls inside the box. The penalty is punishment enough.

 

Not much to argue with there Smug. Even those of us who think it wasn't a penalty think Colo shouldn't have given the ref the choice by doing what he did. There were other options open to him which would have been far better.

As for what would have happened in the second half - like you say, none of us know which is why we get to debate on here. It's near impossible to take off our black and white or red and white specs when thinking about it - which is just the way it should be.

 

My take is that Allardyce has had a fortnight with the bottom team who's confidence was shot to pieces.

He couldn't risk attacking and leaving our defence being exposed to your pace.

Once again Newcastle conceded from being in our box seconds before ....... just like the AJ goal at SJP.

The move for the first was worth a goal and we'll never know if Fletcher would've scored.

I'd guarantee Coloccini wouldn't have barged into Fletcher if he'd thought there was no chance of him scoring.

 

I think it was grandpops touched on it earlier (but might have been someone else). Part of it could have been down to him not having faith in Elliot to come and collect the ball. If that's the case it was a big error of judgement. He might be 3rd choice keeper but he is still an international goalie (somehow). No matter who is on the pitch you have to trust them to do their job (unless it's a kid in goal like we had last season at one point). I was far more worried about Lascelles being thrown into a derby than having Elliot in goal.

 

Don`t agree smug. Elliot was 3rd choice keeper remember. I don`t think Colo was confident the keeper was going to collect so took Fletcher out.

That`s the way it looked to me. Not stupid just not sure so made sure.

It was me mate. I wasn`t suggesting his lack of ability, more the fact that he was a comparative newbie as it were & Colo wasn`t taking any chances. That`s basically what I was suggesting.

Yeah i got that and I think that could have played a big part in what happened. It was Colo who I was saying was wrong to think it. There's plenty on our board who question his ability though. I'm not one of them. I think he is an ok option for a third choice keeper and his distribution is miles better than Krul's. He doesn't pull off many worldies but he does the basics ok - almost the complete opposite of Pants in that game.

Albert's a good lad. Popular as a fart in an astronaut's suit on here but that's the way forum's go. I honestly think a lot of the people who argue the most on here would probably get on in real life. By the same token there's probably people from our own sides that would quickly rub us up the wrong way if we had to spend time with them in real life. Makes life more interesting though

 

I think that`s very close to what I was thinking. It was Colo who had the doubts and took the option of taking the striker out. That`s the way he saw it, that`s what he did. So be it.

Anyway, it`s done now. Nothing any of us can do about it.

That's the camp I'm in mate. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot - when we stop doing that, we can start looking at other factors like refs, luck etc. Until then though only ourselves to blame.

 

I`m going out on a limb here cos I reckon he does a lot to keep that forum going.
