Herrnandez scored 14 in 28 games for Palermo in Serie B, that's 1 in 2 last time I checked. All his previous seasons at Palermo were in Serie A, including a season when he scored 7 in 21 at the age of 19. You've accused him of 'not being a strikers arsehole' all summer, no good whining now when you're being pulled up on it.
Yes, that was when he was 24 years of age. You were comparing him to Ronaldo at age 18. The figures I gave you were when Hernandez was 18. Again, these were all scored at a second tier level whereas Ronaldo was scoring for (arguably) the greatest team in the world at the highest possible level. I accused him of not being a 'strikers arsehole' at Premier Level and you know it. At second tier level he is proving to be a formidable striker but will never (again, just in my opinion) make it at top level as he is a bit short of the sort of quality needed. He will be gone in January if a club come in for him for over 6 million.
I am not sure why you have brought the scoring figures of a much younger attacking midfielder into a debate about strikers.?
My point was that a player coming in from a foreign league doesn't always settle immediately, it can often take a season to get used to the Premier League, where Ronaldo plays is completely academic. I could just as easily have used De Bruyne as an example, couldn't get a look in at Chelsea, now with a 1 in 2 record at Man City.
Your point is taken but there are others you have failed to mention many of whom were goal-scoring machines prior to joining the Premier League. What about Diego Forlan who couldn't score once in his first 27 games and finished up with 10 from 60. Lee Dong-gook who managed none from 23. Andrea Silenzi none from 12. Brett Angell 1 from 20. Wolfswinkel 1 from 25. Jo 1 from 20. Hernandez 4 from 25 was a little better but it equates to 6 a season which is not good enough. Sure, in the Championship he has found his level and is banging them in and I agree with everyone else that he is fantastic at this level but my criticism was his performance in the EPL where he was well-held by much better players than himself. I maintain he will be gone in January (mores the pity for us because if Diamonde doesn't perform as well then we could start slipping).
It's relevant in so much that a striker is expected to score goals more regularly than any other player on the pitch, occasionally a player who is not a striker will excel and Ronaldo (a left-winger, pretty much what I think Robinson is) eventually did that. De Bruyne was thought to be a real talent that attracted a HUGE fee and he has scored 3 in 6 early season games, in an outfield that is full of creative talent - in the same league that Hernandez did not shine, but De Bruyne is also an attacking midfielder and not a striker, so the comparison is flawed again. Perhaps Jose got it wrong at Chelsea, rather than the young, still developing player?
You're completely missing the point, you're writing off Hernandez because he had a poor first season, I'm saying he's not the first player to have a poor first season in the Premier League and I don't think he's a write off as a Premier League player. You disagree, fine, we'll see (at least we will if he gets another chance).
My point was that not ever player comes to the Premier League and is an instant success, it doesn't mean they won't be a success in the future, do you not accept that?
Yes, but Roo's point has always been specific, he talks and is taken up purely on his comments about strikers, so using an analogy of a midfielder is misleading, as I would not expect the same sort of goals return - and that is the nub of the argument. Performance, which someone else mentioned does matter, as do assists, but time wears down patience on a poor goal-scoring striker far quicker than on a midfielder - attacking or not.
HCO died when Footymad decided to ban the use of adblocking software unless you paid a subscription.....I know they have now relented but a huge number stropped posting on there.....the new layout is also truly awful
Football isn't just about statistic. Players may look good from goals or assists but some players do well for the team by holding the ball up or making opportunities for other players to create chances. The skill of a manager is about getting the right players doing well together.
IF he gets another chance. Yes I do accept that but you, and others, are seeing something that I can't. WHO? Hernandez? That means he's been playing 72 games a year since he was 18!!!! He scored 4 from 25 in the English Premier League. All up he has played 184 League Games for 54 goals.
