    Adam Johnson – an apology
In an earlier version of this report, we included the accusation that Adam Johnson had goaded Newcastle’s supporters with an aeroplane celebration after he scored his goal, which we suggested was a reference to the two Newcastle supporters who died when on the crashed Malaysia Airlines flight over Ukraine, last year. We now accept that there was absolutely nothing in the goal celebration which could be sensibly taken to have been a reference to these tragic deaths. We apologise unreservedly to Mr Johnson and have agreed to pay a sum of damages to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Sunderland took the points, along with their first league win of the season. They rewrote the record books, humiliated their biggest rivals and moved above them on goal difference to finish off another perfect derby day. All Newcastle United are left with is a hard luck story

Glad that the Bobby Robson foundation has been helped out but pretty sure damages should have been paid to the Foundation of Light also considering the libel was against Sunderland/a sunderland player.

    I hadn't realised they'd published that story.

Absolutely scandalous for them to have done so without checking their facts.

I hope that contribution is substantial!

It was in response to some deluded Newcastle supporters hoying their toys about and demanding he was banned from football.

Using those 2 lads as a way to attract attention is absolutely beyond words imo.

Grade A twat that lad. To be fair, this was put up on the SAFC fan page on facebook earlier today and a lot of mags were commenting saying he was a **** as well.

I'm not too sure you're allowed to baselessly accuse someone of being a rapist either, Johnno could almost certainly sue him for that if he gets proved innocent - possibly even if he's guilty as "rapist" implies forced sex without consent which he hasn't been accused of.

Oh aye mate. There's plenty of Mags on Not606 saying this accusation of AJs celebration is bollocks too.

    ****ing embarrasing.

Sick of this **** now like its just a constant stream of **** getting flung at our club.

They just need to **** off.

If he gets sent down for noncing then his career is over.
Sunderland will do the honourable thing and sack him immediately.

That donation could have been at Johnson's request.

They must have the biggest dickhead ratio of fans in the world. There's a lot of decent ones on here that I feel sorry for, having to bare the brunt of the brainless chavs who appear to represent them the most.

The only likeable word in that retraction was the word "sensibly". Pity they did not apply that in the first place.

If AJ is cleared do you think NUFC will issue any sort of apology for theirs fans constantly bringing the game into disrepute by singing and joking about such a serious and sickening subject? If he's convicted I have no doubt our club would do the right thing I.e sacking and legal proceedings. But like I say of he is cleared surely it's not ok for their fans in grounds and on social media to use it to defame the lad, it's that sort of stigmatising that ruins the lives of accused but innocent people and leads to things like suicide.
