QPR striker Charlie Austin could return for Friday’s derby at Brentford.

Austin, who has scored seven goals this season, has missed four matches since picking up a hamstring injury during Rangers’ 4-0 defeat at Fulham a month ago.

But head coach Chris Ramsey believes Austin could be available for the game at Griffin Park and will certainly be in the squad for the away match against Derby a week on Tuesday.

“Charlie was trying to get himself back in the squad this week, but we have to protect him,” said Ramsey.

“Sometimes, for a player’s own good, having looked at an injury you decide that they’re not quite ready. Rushing them back is a big mistake.

“I would say we’ll hopefully be looking for him to play in the next game or be part of the squad. If not, then definitely the game after that.”

Rangers have managed to scored eight goals in Austin’s absence. Three of them have come from his replacement, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who scored the all-important opener in their 3-0 win against MK Dons.

i would still play jet up top , even if he was fit to start no point rushing him back risking another injury . jet knows where the goal is just needs the service

Would like to see, at some point, the pair of them actually play in tandem as a front 2.

Don't think many defences would relish coming up against that pair, particularly with the form JET is in.

Totally with you on this. I think Charlie would profit from having someone big and strong to play off. Opposition defences would need to double up on both of them. They couldn't do that without compromising their attack. Defending from the front and all of that.

eventually this would be the best set up . not many defences could cope with them tow on form , all down to service though ....

Totally agree with these. Charlie's better performances for us were when he played alongside/off BZ

Let Charlie start on the Bench and come on late if there is a need. No point rushing him back from a hamstring anyway, but especially when Jet is doing a better job.

Completely agree as well. Would be a nightmare for opposition defences and after watching JET, I truly believe they could start up top together. I would sacrifice one of the two holding midfielders in order to start the two, particularly against the bottom half teams and when we're at home.
