    It certainly was.

Q: Who do you blame? Colo? The referee? Both?

    I blame both.
Colo for stupidly putting himself in a position to have the question asked. The ref for sending him off and giving the pen.
AJ ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of us and precedent was set with Adebayour that it is an automatic yellow.
The ref was so inconsistent after his clanger too.
Derby days need top class refs.
Would Ellery or Poll have behaved like that? Nope.

I understand what you`re saying but all refs make poor decisions. We know that. We see it week in week out. Sometimes in our favour sometimes against. .

I`m struggling to see anything other than crass stupidity from Colo. Totally unnecessary from him and shouldn`t have put the ref in a position to make the decision anyway. Deliberately took the bloke out. Totally daft imo.

As far as the other refs and celebrations are concerned I would expect them to show common sense in what is, after all, an expectedly emotionally charged game. Can`t honestly see any of your scorers doing anything less and wouldn`t blame them if they did.

Thanks for the normal response unlike one of your colleagues!

I think there is improvement, and quite frankly I don't see Ashley firing people frequently like we or Villa do.

My best mate supports Newcastle and he cannot stand McLaren and said you were doomed when he signed- I was only trying to gage other fans opinions.

Would you not prefer Moyes if he was available though?

He's wobbling in Spain and I think you could get him.

Personally I can't stand Moyes. He's just another Pardew but much more dignified. He's another cautious, safety first manager.

As an example, we were 2-0 down yesterday with twenty minutes to play, along with having ten men. I can say with some certainty that Pardew would have had us playin 4-4-0 defending our own box trying to keep the score down. Steve brought on Thauvin for our LB meaning we had Perez, Wiji, Sissoko, Mitrovic and Thauvin on the pitch, two strikers and three attacking midfielders and we were still creating the better chances.

For me McClaren just gets it, he's just been unlucky with a tough schedule, a bit of stupidity from Janmaat, Mitro and Colo as all their red cards were avoidable (even though I don't think Colo's was a foul) and some bad luck.

This year is just about staying up because we have the basis of a very good team if we do. Just need to stay up, ship out Colo, Tiote, Cisse and over the next two windows sign a 2x CB, LB, DM, CF. Five players over two windows as well as replacing any that leave. We don't need major surgery, we just need to give the manager time and he needs to be backed in the next two windows just as he was in the summer.

We're currently playing 4-4-2, McClaren is the bravest manager in the league for doing that. Every other manager is far too cowardly for that, look at your game yesterday and the Manchester derby, all four teams adopting a safety first approach, all too afraid to lose. I was bored to tears watching that garbage. Yes we got walloped 3-0 but the week before we won 6-2. Regardless of the result yesterday we were probably the most pleasing team on the eye to watch, especially first half.

If the ref didn't **** up yesterday we're sat on 9 points, out of the relegation zone with Stoke home followed by Bournemouth away. A great opportunity to take us in to mid table. We'll be fine this season, certainly won't be any knee jerking from me.

    Fair enough.

I agree on the entertainment value. We're pants to watch atm and are quite frankly leaderless and low on confidence.

I don't think you'll go down and neither does my mate.

The league is pretty poor this year. Norwich, Sunderland, Bournemouth, Villa are all candidates for the drop along with probably Watford in the long run.

I think somewhere between 12-15th might be where you will finish.

Its up to Ashley as ever I guess.

Even as a Sunderland fan I was disappointed with Sissoko or Sissy whatever his name is. In the 2nd half he faded from the game (we have one of them, he is a member of the Star Trek team and when he passes the white line he switches his cloaking device, Rodwell), if he ever wants a move to a big club that was when he should have stepped up and displayed his metal.

It was a pen very clearly, only those who do not see the world in colour reckon otherwise, but it was only the letter of the law that got his sent off, as I think your keeper (who should have come out early and not give Coco the chance to foul Fletcher) may well have got the ball. Yes you bossed the midfield in the first half, four narrow players v Catts and M'Vila with Johnson and Lens out wide. But possession means nothing its goals that count.

Oh ...Six...is that a record for in a row? and the other one 1-9 (yes at home we thrashed you) highest score. Over the 153 competitive games played you have won 53, we have drawn 49 and we have won 51,,,so you still have one record, that we cannot take form you until next season (supposing we are both in the Premier League not a given for either of us atm).

Rough as **** today. I can't be arsed to read through the whole thread but I can imagine the theme's.

Obviously bitterly disappointed with the result. It all hinged on the decision just before half time. Personally I didn't think it was a foul but from the distance the ref was away from play, the linesman not up with the game, I can see why the pen was given. Colo was pretty stupid once again to give him a decision to make, Elliot was gathering the ball anyway? Strange brain fart from Colo for me. The sending off is obviously ludicrously comical. The ref is just guessing from where he is that Fletcher will get the ball if it is a foul. Unfortunately that is just down to inexperience of these type of games, he has just shat himself and made a rash decision.

3-0 is wildly flattering, we absolutely played them off the park. We even matched them with 10, and just got caught pushing on a bit on the 3rd, no harm in that I'd rather we had a go. Bottom line is though, although we controlled the game, our final ball let us down and we didn't make the best of the chances we had. Mitro missed an absolute sitter. I thought Pantillimon was excellent for them though. Perez led them a merry dance but every time it came to the important bit, the killer ball or shot, he just wasn't at it. Gini was head and shoulders above every player on the park.

Overall whilst the result is obviously a ****, I think there are plenty of positives to take from the game. We had a 50/50 pen decision go against us - it happens, a bad decision on the red card - it happens, and we paid for it. I'd be a lot more worried if I was a Sunderland fan to be honest, they are terrible. They got outplayed with 10 and 11, they couldn't pass the ball 5 yards. Sam has his work cut out there as they won't carry that luck all season. The ref was a proper homer mind, Cattermole not getting booked was incredible. M'Vila must wonder why he has that dog alongside in midfield because he looks decent.

One of those days unfortunately. I feel much better after the last few weeks strangely. We have imploded a bit at times, but there are definite signs that we have enough quality to stay in the league. A few weeks before that looked improbable at best. Just one we have to put behind us and move on.

Thankyou for accepting my apology and no mclaren should get until Christmas weve had tough fixtures, having said that they are all tough these days.

It's not his fault we didn't buy the centre back, left back and im my opinion someone was required that can run a game in the middle.

Quite a balanced post - although this "played them off the park" rubbish is nonsense - one clear cut chance in 90 minutes is pretty rubbish - it's like watching Arsenal against Man City (well with two far worse teams but in principle) where City are clinical and Arsenal are tippy tappy football - all fart and no ****!

Pointless having 60% possession if you don;t look dangerous with it - and you didn;t at all except for a nice bit of skill from Mtrovic and a great save from Pantilimon at 1-0 to us. You created very little - looked good on the ball (except when Colback had time and space and tried an incisive pass!) Only one point in that entire match was my heart in my mouth - and that was the moment mentioned above. The rest of the time it was comfortable for us letting you probe and try to break us down.

The scoreline for you lot v Norwich was very flattering and that also hinged on a definite 100% penalty and red card NOT being given against you at 3-2 swings and roundabouts
