The team have been instilled with massive expectations ever since the Leihberrs took over....even occasional talk of winning the title. I sometimes suspect that there is a company hypnotist on the staff. :) Whether unreasonable or not, this ambition is effective.....though it would be nice if they believed it enough to want to stay.

I didn't think we played particularly well offensively but looked solid in defence. I can only think of one save that either goalkeeper made which kind of sums it up. This group of players can and will play better and when that happens we are capable of beating anyone.

My only slight moan is with Pelle who seems to be spending increasing amounts of time being Italian and waving his arms around in frustration. I would like to see a bit more of the 'Vardy' in his play. Having said that, he was tracking back late on in the game to help out in mid-field/defence.

I would have taken a point at the start of the game. I would most definitely taken it the way it happened.

The commentator on my stream said that we are the team with the most headed shots in the league. After never looking like scoring, it makes a pleasant change to be the most dangerous team in the league from set pieces. Hell, Van Dijk got a clear cut chance every match so far.

Koeman said that Dave Watson has been working on set pieces...it has certainly been an area of concern in the past. You can't afford to waste the opportunities presented by free kicks and corners. A few goals from this source will prove very valuable by season's end. VvD has also improved our chances from headers...nearly another yesterday.

I like to go on the Southampton section of Newsnow postmatch, but a real waste of time at the moment. If you thought it was bad after the Chelsea game, it's even worse today. Don't get me wrong, I like the look of Klopp and find him interesting (especially enjoy his world weary look as he realises the job he's got), but we scarcely get a mention. I will concede not our best game, but we were present.

Nope. You can find the whole match on the net, which includes the 89th minute. And the 90th, 91st, 92nd, 93rd and 94th. :)

Yep. I'm finding it a bit tedious today, frankly. Just had breakfast, and with my cup of tea I wanted an article on the Saints players being disappointed with the 1-1 draw, and what that means in terms of the Club ambition. But there's barely anything interesting on Newsnow that doesn't come from a Liverpool perspective.

Since it is all anyone can talk about, I think the Liverpool fans will have to be patient. Herr Klopp cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear....after all Liverpool aren't Southampton (however hard they try). :) Should improve when their wounded players are back, but I think the best they can hope for is consolidation this season and give their manager a chance to assess who he needs to move on and who he needs to bring in in the summer. Difficult and risky to bring players in in January window. The real judgement on Klopp will be next season.

Lets just take consolation in being a bit under the radar at the mo'.

The Jose and Jurgen circus is what the media want to puff up, football (the game that is) is a sideshow.

It looks like WHU and Leicester are the new Saints this year. The press can't wait until their bubble bursts. If we can just stay competitive until April then string together 5 wins in a row to grab 4th ! Heaven.

That said I'm off for my mid-morning latte and a free read of the Daily Mail. Any guesses on the % of Saints content in their match report ?

Apart from the headline and a couple of lines top and bottom, that looks like an entire lift of text from a Liverpool paper by the Daily Echo. Did you notice that too.?

And what's with this turgid encounter stuff.? I watched the whole match late last night and found it quite enjoyable. Granted, it wasn't end to end open stuff, but it was intriguing to see the teams cope with each other's tactics. Those that say this sort of game is utterly boring then usually add that it might be one for the purists.? Guess I'm a purist if that's the case. Still slightly disappointed we didn't win, though when they scored and the commentators were talking about Liverpool seeing the game out I felt confident we'd equalise and perhaps do more.

One interesting bit of trivia. The Footballorgin stream I watched was from NBC with a good commentator [Arlo White.?] who was unbiased, but clearly this was a Liverpool home game. Sometime in the second half there must have been a technical problem because the stream switched [missing out 5 seconds and two stonewall penalties for Southampton no doubt] to SKY1 and the commentator was obviously a SKY regular. The previous unbiased commentating immediately switched to a huge Liverpool bias. It was only so noticeable because I'd been listening to a commentary that was completely neutral before. And actually, the quality of the previous commentary was much better too.

I noticed that too. I was watching on croatian television, they switched on a sky sports stream, where the commentator was unneccesarily excited every time Liverpool had the ball, so I immediately switched back.

    Haven't read much coverage yet, or seen any of the action. Loved these two lines from the Guardian's match report though, the 2nd being a quote from Ron;

"Anfield was so quiet you could make out the insults Adam Lallana was receiving. ."

"We were only worth a point. We can play better. " Tell em, Ron

Take a point. But the quality is there. We looked more of a threat, and as has always seemed the case as a Saints supporter, the opposition get one shot on target, and score. We need to be more ruthless.

VVD was epic again. Need to get me a green shirt with lots of 'V's ASAP!

(PS - Was Koemen telling Mane to hurry up and get off the field after being sent because he wanted to win the game at Anfield with 10 players? I love that man!)

Absolutely he was. I also don't think he likes that kind of gamesmanship. Top man, and a real credit.
