    The Match.
An interesting conundrum for the Saints, with Villa sacking their Manager Tim Sherwood and sitting at
the bottom of the Premier this should be a game where they should take advantage and win.
Trouble is football doesn’t ever make it that simple! We won’t get an easier chance to progress and
hopefully RonKo will put out the strongest possible side, despite missing Sadio Mane after his Red Card at Liverpool. A chance for some of the bench warmers to get some time too if things go well in the game.

    Stek
    Yoshida Fonte VVD Bertrand
    Romeu Clasie
    JWP Gaston Tadic
    Pelle

I'd be surprised if we made too many changes. I'm not saying that I would pick Yoshida at RB, but I think Ron is more likely to pick him ahead of Caulker or Martina (on the assumption that Cedric makes way - of the back four, he's the one Ron seems most content with leaving out). I don't know if two starts in four days might be too much too soon for Clasie, but if he can start, then no doubt Ron will want him to. Get more game time into his legs, as well as continuing to integrate him into both our system and the English game.

I'm guessing that Villa U21 manager will be bringing a lot of Villa U21 players.

Big fan of these midweek cup games, at home, with £7 tickets.

I'll be there! Which makes a lovely change.

Not too many changes, hopefully get a convincing win. Gaston quadrouple hattrick.

Well, Ryan Seager travelled up to Liverpool, so if we are fairly as we were (ie, no long, rodriguez or mane) I would expect to see him on the bench at least.

I'd definitely give Maya a game. JWP and Romeu in midfield with Clasie and Gaston playing too. Rest as you are.

Stekelenburg; Cédric, Fonte, Yoshida, Bertrand; Clasie, Romeu, Gastón; Ward-Prowse, Pellè, Tadić.

I can imagine Koeman starting VVD still, though.

Yes. The club have done well with pricing on this and the Europa matches. I'm looking forward to seeing Gaston play a whole game again, last time would've been vs Bristol City in the League Cup two years ago !

But then Ron may rest him after Sunday's exertion :emoticon-0105-wink:

Can't see Ron resting anyone to be honest. Gaston for Mane and leave the rest of the team as it was

Would prefer not to, but does give us a chance to see the team without Mane...as he won't be an ever present. Ron may rest a player if he has to after such a short turn around, but he tends to play the usual starters for cup games, especially true as we are playing a PL side. He will be up for this as we are a side that should give cups a genuine shot with a European place at stake.

No Mane, no Benny and no Timmy, it won't be 6-1.

Rather he didn't, but Ron may rest Stekelenberg if there is any doubt over his back. Have to be careful with back problems...he will be carefully monitored for any reaction to Sunday's game. The question is what if he can't play...he usually goes for SKD, but may want to give Gazza a game. Let's all pray for Stek. :)

"Sadio Mane, he hasn't come for you" :) I think he felt he couldn't live up to the standards set in May so took himself out of the game. :)

Liked Mane's answers in his interview...lovely lad. If he played for Chelsea (heaven forfend), he would be blaming the ref, media, fans and the washing powder used on his kit.

    Stek
    Yoshida Fonte Caulker Targett
    Romeu Ward-Prowse
    Juanmi Gaston Rodriguez
    Seager

I'd play this. Give the fringe players a chance to shine. Rest Cedric for the weekend, and see what Seager can do.
When the FA cup comes around that's when I'd play the full first XI.
