I'm not so sure mate. Is it Rooney or is it Van Gaal's football? Or a bit of both? Not much wrong with our build up play but as soon as we get to the final third we run out of idea OR WORSE make really bad decisions

Best word to describe our front 3 in that final third is "hesitation". It's slow and cumbersome football. I wonder even if we had Van Nistlerooy up front whether he would do much better. Van Gaal is poison.

A fair assessment. There used to be a certain expectation at our club. You used the word ambition and that sums it up. 0 shots on target in that first half for the first time in 25 years.

I actually think our squad is full of quality but our manager lacks balls. We should have been ruthless and we werent.

It is Van Gaals selections that are the problem for me. It makes no sense at all to play our best striker as a winger, just to fit Rooney in the team, because he's realised that Herrera is better than Rooney in the number 10 role.

Drop Rooney and play Martial up front with Herrera behind, then we'll have a proper team again. It's so obvious that only an idiot can't see it. It's literally ruining our season that this clown can't see what is obvious to everyone.

I rate Martial highly but I doubt he'll be as effective when it will be him playing with his back to goal and 3 defenders behind him. We dont have our forwards making runs into the box or our midfielf playing through balls beyond the defence. EVERYTHING is played in front of the back 4. RVN would struggle mate. Teams dont look troubled. City were comfortable for 90 mins.

Go back to the goal against CSKA. Watch the pass by Herrera. We simply dont do that enough. I bet if Scholes was still playing today, Van Gaal would bench him.

so was RVP and we showed him the door
Rooney form is average not only over the past months but even in the past 2 seasons, he was way too inconsistent no wonder why we finished out of top4 and 4th in the past 2 seasons
I wouldn't had said anything if it was a short term thing, honest GOD he can't do simple passes, seem aged and can't handle it bcz you used to run like a horse before fighting for every ball.. now he look like just running behind the balls and by time he get the ball he is too fkn tired to make the right decision... the only good thing he did today was defending that crossed ball. he is older now and need to amend his football style bcz he is not as athletic as before

he is ... Pep was lucky to manager Barca with messi, xavi and inesta at their peak, once they get older, Barca become defeatable
just like Bayern now, with all new players he bring in, they look defeatable in CL. i never seen Bayern losing at home 1-4 only under Pep.. they lost to a joke club like Arsenal who lost first 2 matches .. the guy was playing open match facing Arsenal .. what a knob?!!!

This txt from someone who knows his football says it all

No ambition from LVG, just football by numbers and decent possession stats.

Rooney should be dropped but it's LVG that should shoulder the responsibility for the lack of chances we are creating.

Even in his substitutions he never thought to move Martial up front. The guy is a spoofer.

Btw special memtion for Rojo who was fcking immense today. Should have got MOTM.

ROONEY IS NOT OUT OF FORM. The right word is he is on a free fall, serious DECLINE. when u are out of form u have the ability to come back and give a good performance for 5,6,7 games in a row. We have seen that happen to sanchez, aguero and even Kane. Rooney on the other hand can probably give a good performance in one game and go back to his old self in other games. I don't see him being consistent for up to 5 games at a go. He is not out of form but simply on a free fall. The earlier the manager accepts that the better for the team and England in europlan championship next year. Rooney has nothing more to offer at the moment. We have seen the best of him.

Rooney turned 30 this week. He's a very old 30. His lack of discipline when it came to looking after his body has caught up with him. It seems like he started every season out of shape after a summer of excess. You can burn that off when you're young but the older you get the harder it is to get into peak condition. Maybe he will come good at some point this season but it will have taken him too long and cost the team too much. There's not a single player in the squad who would have been allowed to be the worst player on the pitch for so many games without getting dropped. Herrera has to be one of the best players on the pitch just to retain his place in the team. LVG's bottling this one.

City didn't look comfortable when Martial got the ball. I've not seen any side look happy he has it.

The lads got something special. Just hope he is able to reach the level you can see he has.

Stats only tell part of the story but... 55% pass accuracy. Zero shots on target. Zero chances created. Lost possession 5 times more than any other player <diva>

    9 months. Rooney's longest drought.

He's a way off yet. I'm getting concerned now but I'm not writing him off.

He did OK today as well. Not great but ok. The Rooney we usually see when he's out of form bit still grafts.

Lone strikers tend to lose it more but that's poor regardless. Still think he was OK today.

He's got a not more time with me but he needs to start knocking them on. Staying forward would help that.

Pep better pellegrini when both had control of the best sides in Spain right?

    Pellegrini isn't an impressive manager.
