    Exactly.
    Sam Allardyce has confirmed it.
If the SAFC fans want to disagree with his honest, and surprising assessment then that's their choice that's all.

'Showing some class' would be admitting that often in football the 'better side' doesn't get what it wants and accepting you lost and the only thing that matters is the scoreline.

Thing is, nobody is saying 'we deserved it' so I'm really not sure what you are looking for here? Pretty much all of us agree you were the better side, but you never looked like scoring, only once did I grimace, the Mitrovic one.

Yet the 'better' team lost 3-0. Doesn't happen by chance such a big margin...

We'd clearly set up to sit off them and not press the ball, hence they were going to have a lot of possession.

For me, big Sam has seen they carry little threat and was comfortable with them coming at us.

He got that spot on, they didn't ever have me worried despite having the ball and being the better side.

Sam allardyce said we were fortunate to get the penalty. That isn't Sam allardyce saying it wasn't a foul or it wasn't a penalty. It was a foul. Normally they're not given. Ergo we were fortunate. people say it's 50/50 in the neutral camp. We'll surely it's also 50/50 on here as your lot think it isn't and we think it is?

Interesting tactical game when you take away the histrionics being bandied around on here.

    - Sam appeared to be playing the let them have the have the ball, and when we win it hit them hard on the break

    - schteve appeared to be playing total football.

Both teams carried out their tactics very well, but the difference was that they couldn't execute their part of the bargain, and we could.

Whether we all agree it was a pen or a sending off is irrelevant. The key thing was that we broke their play down, moved the ball quickly and directly, and when the ball was played through by Defoe to Fletcher the defender chose a course of action that forced the referee to make a decision. Trouble was he didn't need to make that decision. Colo let his team down simple as. Once that goal went in their heads went down.

Important to point out that even when the Nags had 70%+ of the possession and it looked like it was only a matter of time before they scored the fans kept with the team; couldn't hear any moans or boos. True 12th man!

It was 50/50 so we can't complain - well we can but it doesn't do any good or change anything. Sometimes they are given and sometimes they aren't. One set of fans will always feel hard done by in these situations. It makes no difference now though. What's done is done.

****ing six in a row. What a **** that is.

Think we have ourselves to blame as much as the referee (who was an absolute disgrace, favoured you throughout and Cattermole must have some dirty pictures of him). Regardless of his performance, we dominated for most of the match and didn't score. For that we can only blame ourselves.

For me, the penalty was never a penalty for a couple of reasons:

    1) Football is a contact sport and if that is now a foul then the quality and enjoyment of watching football is going to fade away

    2) That could happen another 50 times throughout the rest of the season and you won't see any referee give a foul for it, not once. A little consistency isn't too much to ask.

After 45 minutes, there was nothing we could do, the referee ruined the game. But it would never have come to that if we were 2 or 3 up which we should have been, so I'm not buying the excuses from McClaren, it's our fault we lost. And all your goals were very well taken btw, Sam got his tactics spot on with a side that are clearly lacking in confidence and, well, generally ****.

No sour grapes from me, I'm ****ing devastated but we should have won DESPITE playing 10 v 12, rather than using that as an excuse for losing.

By the way, I ****ing knew it would be Adam Johnson to score, and I ****ing knew a celebration like that would be coming. That hurt.

Anyone in Newcastle tonight, i will be in Sam Jack's drowning my sorrows and probably in Sinner's cage until about 5am this morning, come join me <cheers>

Mainly fair mate, but as you never looked like scoring, you just can't say you should have been ahead. Not once did I think you were gonna score first half despite the possession.

I'll be in Tokyo later if you fancy leaving the gutter bars ;)

Oh yeah, I agree. I mean that if we want to claim the ref was to blame, we need to answer why our total dominance wasn't turned into goals. People nowadays seem to think that possession is the be all and end all of football. "We deserved more" the most over-used phrase in football, based entirely on ****ty statistics.

Aye. I believe we set up to let you have the ball, there was no pressure on you at all, a lot of the first half possession was completely harmless, and the shots count, well Sissokho taking pot shots from a quarter of a mile out wasn't really a threat.

I never felt comfortable with the set up, but I never felt especially uneasy with the lack of possession and I guess that sums it up.

The penalty was a penalty (I didn't think so live, but on the replays it's all about Colo making no attempt to play the ball and stepping in, the key movement), and once it's v 10 and 1-0 I had no fear we'd lose the lead, although I thought Mitrovic would score, the one moment I thought you'd score.

For me, we are at a similar level, we have Lens, M'Vila to a lesser extent Defoe, you have Wij, Janmaat lesser extent Sissokho who are very good, a few that are 'adequate' but we back them up with ****e, we both have 2 or 3 at least that would struggle for games elsewhere in the league.

Bornemouth, Norwich & Villa might well save us both, I personally think Villa sacking Sherwood is a massive error. We both still need 4 players or so to be close to the top 8 and that's a ****ing worry.

Not far wrong, I think without the pen and red card it had 0-0 written all over it.
I'm never going to agree re the penalty, that happens multiple times in every single game, I'm not having it even if it is in the letter of the law. Similar to the Bendtner pen at SJP a couple years ago, may well have been a penalty but I don't see why it is only given 1 time out of 50. Unfair.

Sissoko is ****e btw, those who only see us on MOTD or a handful of times a year may think he's good, but he's one of the worst, laziest and most costly players in our team.

We are both miles away from top half teams and tbh at the minute it's another year of hoping there are 3 teams worse than us. Villa, Norwich and Bournemouth may oblige but if any of them manage to pull away then one of us is going down and there can be no complaints, we are 2 disgustingly bad teams.

Of course not. I watched that match surrounded by manc's of both sides. They both said theyd be pissed off but would still take it in their favour.

I'm not disputing that. Just your reaction.

I'd pay good money to have a ref make that amount of glaringly disgusting decisions in our favour, and I'd take it all day long <laugh> :( :(
