You can't say much after that. The fact that we dominated for so long yet just couldn't quite score... you could smell this coming.

Fat sam set up to shut up shop and hope that we'd hit the self destruct button, and we ****ing did.

It shouldn't have been a red, but we can't really complain. Coloccini was just owned by Fletcher, who's not even that quick, and shouldn't have gone in like that.

The ref was ****, but we can't blame him for not scoring and falling apart like that.

    Ratings -

Elliot - 4 - Couldn't really do anything about the goals.

Janmaat - 5 - Tried his best down the right side, put in some good balls. Can't really be blamed for much.

Mbemba - 5 - Showed composure when Colo didn't, but still, part of a defence that fell apart.

    Colo - 0 - What a tosser.

Lascelles - 3 - Looks rather plain. Bad match to come on, but didn't seem to track players at all well. Not impressed.

Dummett - 2 - I don't see what he has over Haidara. He's just crap.

Sissoko - 6 - Superb first half. He ran Sunderland ragged. But then let himself down with some **** shots. Tried hard towards the end to cut Sunderland open.

Tiote - 2 - ****ing stupid challenges while he was on. He shouldn't start over Anita.

Colback - 5 - Some decent play while he was on. Kind of wasted a chance when he was free trying to square it.

Wijnaldum - 6 - The only player that really seemed to get into great situations. Great runs into the box, worked hard.

Perez - 5 - Great composure on the ball at times. Just lacked that cutting edge with finishing and final product.

Mitrovic - 4 - Not as sharp as usual. Should have scored.

McClaren - 7 - Got it spot on in first half. We were on the verge of eventually breaking them down and comfortably winning until that pen. Couldn't really have done more with the subs.

Never a 3-0. Can't believe we dominated so much and still contrived to lose.

The entire blame lies with Colocini, we were dominating a derby, and it was a matter of time before we stuck the ball in their net... Then colo happened! The keeper was on his way, all he had to do was make his prescence known (slightly!) and let the keeper clean up.. But to shoulder barge a player in the box! Hes been a liability for a while now. He should have nightmares tnite but im sure his millions of pounds will ensure comfort beyond anything we can dream of, and he will probs have some sort of modern custom designed dream catcher that will block out any bad dreams. Colo cost us that game.

Mate if fat boy Elliot had come out quicker Colo wouldn't have had to do that.

Mate that almost sounds like you're trying to make excuses for Colo?? Surey not?? Colo should have made his prescence felt and put the player off his stride, not ****in barge him over in the box... Regardless of where elliot was, the keeper as it happens had it covered with a little help from his defender... The blame starts and ends with Colo

Think some of your ratings are a bit harsh to be honest Tash. We didn't play that badly. All that matters is the scoreline, but on another day that performance would have been very different and colo's challenge would have been seen as good defending by a lot of refs.

We created so many chances but didn't put them away. We take it on the chin and move on.

It was a completely different performance from the last five derbies even if the scoreline wasn't!

Less hope chucking water on all the hot headed nufc fans there!! I was fuming, im a level headed bloke and when they were awarded a pen I threw me phone on the floor! Realised it could be broke but didnt want to instantly fling meself after it, so sort of strutted around abit pretending not to care, then when i felt enough time had lapsed i picked it up and checked it thoroughly... Yes i was well pissed off. The game was ours man, we were pissin it, the only frustration was we hadnt stuck it in the bag! I will disagree on the challenge, it wasnt shoulder to shoulder it was a blatant shoulder barge, which unfortunately you dont get away with these days unless your a top four club.

We should have won, simple as that. Was a pen, not a sending off. Ref ruined the game. Colo is a complete liability; get rid ASAP. Wijnaldum REALLY stood out from the rest of the **** that was on display. WORLD class player. Never lost the ball, always neat and tidy, never under pressure. Needs to be played through the middle - we need a PROPER right winger, left winger, left back and centre back NOW! Thauvin is beyond useless; so light weight he makes perez look like the incredible hulk!

I can see why the pen was given, but think more often than not that challenge would go unpunished. Within the laws of the game the ball was within playing distance and a shoulder barge should be allowed. I agree with BRS though that if Elliot had been a little quicker the situation wouldn't have arisen.

Newcastle never really troubled us. A lot of huffing and puffing but so what, we seen that with Poyet (yawn). We done a professional job in the second half and won the game comprehensively in the end. Not really sure how Newcastle will survive this season after watching that...

Not a pen for me and even with 10 men we had the two best chances in the second half.

Difficult to give any player less than a 7 bar Elliott who was a 5/6. Sissoko deserved an 8 and Gini a 9. He ran the game and was the best player on the pitch by some distance. I thought Sunderland were poor, more so first half but credit to them, they were handed a gift by not only the pen but especially the red card and they capitalised on it.

This one doesn't hurt as much for me as the others did, we turned up, played well, created some good chances and could have had a penalty ourselves. We were just very unlucky on the day, that isn't Sunderland's problem though so credit to them.

We'll be fine this season, I'm a big fan of how Steve has us playing so hope the fans don't get on his back.

Careful Safc, enjoy ya victory but you's are in as much trouble as us this season... More so i would say, the true football fan in you will 100% see yous were shocking today and would have been humped but for the sending off... That was a true derby day performance and you grafted for the win after the sending off, however yous a short in all areas, have fat sham as manager and its a long auld season... But enjoy today

Unlucky chaps. First derby in a while in which you looked like the better side. Funny old game...

Can't disagree with a single word of this. Obviously the result hurts, but I actually think there were more positives than negatives in our performance.

We were better today in the first half than we were all game against Norwich. With ten it was difficult but we still kept going and made chances.

Our first half was the best we'd played all season. Hope the players don't lose self belief after this result.

    And the fans!!

We need to keep in mind that we're at the beginning of a project. One transfer window and ten games into a process that will take a long time. As long as we don't get cut adrift then we now have something to build on rather than cracks to paper over. It will take time though.

As long as cool don't play we should be fine. Man he has proper got bad. Actually so has tiote. He was a yard slow all game. I mean he was tackling thin air at times.
