I must say that I was pleased with the statement made by Ivan Gazidas about Arsenal's transfer policy. It seems that the club is aware of the weaknesses in our squad and that something is being done about it. However, is there any other club in the premiership that is so secretive about their intentions? It is exasperating for supporters who have no idea if statements like this are accurate or just more placation which will inevitably lead to starting another season with an inadequate squad. We have been down this road before with Gazidas and Wenger making seemingly contradictory statements. An example of this is Wenger recently stating that our defence is not that weak and then Gazidas saying that Wenger is aware of the weaknesses and where we need to strengthen. What are we to think? Is it other weaknesses the Gazidas was referring to or are the two men reading from different choir sheets? Arsenal fans seem to be kept in the dark to a ridiculous level concerning where the club is heading on and off the pitch. Considering the recent hike in ticket prices I think we are owed a little more information. I could of course be proven wrong and if this secrecy results in getting the players we need at non-inflated prices then I will be the first to take my hat off to the board and Wenger. I am, however, not holding my breath..
is there any other club in the premiership that is so secretive about their intentions? the old saying is treat ppl how you expect to be treated. and wenger said we dont need a big overhaul which is correct, so he thinks there is a weakness, ppl say things differently thats all
i think all of them are,the information papers etc get,i imagine come from the agents, trying to engineer something
Arsenal have never been a club to do their business or wash their dirty linen in public. A good thing in my opinion
This is a good thing in relation to specific information about transfers but I don't think it would be too damaging if Wenger made a reassuring statement of intent at the start of the transfer window. Other clubs seem to be able to do it without being seen as washing their dirty linen in public. Something along the lines of "Last season it became clear that our defence had certain weaknesses and we will look to strengthen this area in the summer" would do nicely.
I wasn't referring to 'dirty linen' and transfer business in the same context really, more an overall assessment of our club's approach to managing the media But I agree that an honest appraisal and statement about what the manager intends to do is welcome. Something along the lines of "Last season it became clear that our defence had certain weaknesses and we will look to strengthen this area in the summer" is pretty much what's been said by both manager and chief exec - isn't it?
Alvarez becomes public knowledge and some other club bids. Campbell becomes public knowledge and some other club bids. And as much as I love Younggunsblog/Arseblog/Gunnersblog, their coverage has actually hurt Arsenal in some cases.
i'd rather we knew absolutely nothing until a player was signed and he just appeared out of the blue. Wenger says "defense is a weakness" and the next day every team in the world puts up their prices for defenders when Arsenal come a-callin because they know they want to buy defenders. The problem is, supporters aren't sure Wenger has seen the deficiencies in the team that the fans have seen. The trust in Wenger is lower now than it used to be.
Exactly. While it is not necessarily a bad thing, being kept in the dark is exasperating for the fans because we cannot be sure that Wenger has identified what seems to most people to be glaring deficiencies.
