Chinese I always used to use the one in Brough (Gia Hua, not the station one or the one in South Cave, never the latter EVER). Now I use China Red in Dunswell and it's fantastic, portions are enormous and good value for money, brilliant quality. Fish and Chips; I'm biased but I've had Frydays and it's excellent. But Papas shades it for me, it's just superb, Syd knows his stuff. Burgers: I never really went for burgers in town so I'm not well placed to comment on this. I would like some recommendations on where to go for a good steak, me and mrs sterling used to go to Farthings on our anniversary (we live in Beverley now) and it was awesome, but it's shut down for reasons unknown (literally just no idea what happened, I thought it was doing alright).
Kidney? I'd gone the pub straight after work and much to my joy the mother-in-law(you can all get to ****, she makes the bestest pie ever and anywhere) had saved me a very generous plate of steak pie and mash. My delight was horribly trampled on when I saw there was KIDNEY in it But you know what it's like when you've had a few and don't have the cash for a takeaway? So I set about carefully picking out the kidney. Next day I thanked her for an excellent supper, but don't worry about the kidney next time eh love? Mother-in-law : Kempton you ****ing pathetic waste of space, they were button mushrooms sliced in half
Yeah, just about everything's good from Fields, but for me it's the steak & kidney pies, I just went and got half a dozen today As for burgers, I'm gonna have to try these dope burgers now, bit if a bastard to get parked though. The best burgers I've had recently were at the Black Bull in Burton Pidsea, they do a special burger night on Thursday nights, the Bully Burger's fantastic, it comes with BBQ & caramelised onion garnish and triple cooked hand cut chips. One thing, unless you're not bothered, ask them if they can serve it on a plate, otherwise you'll get it in one of those ****ing wooden slabs that are becoming increasingly popular. How the **** can those wooden slabs be hygienic in any way shape or form?! Give me good old ceramic every day of the week!
Stanley's in Paragon Square is as good a restaurant as anywhere in the region. The fish and chips really are superb. Biggest robbery ? Lounge on Princes Ave. Steak and Ale pie, £9.95. Tiny wedge of pie, about six soggy chips, clotted gravy, and microwaved. Never again. No wonder the place was virtually empty.
Bollocks dunno what happened there but agree with LBIA. Just been to Zillis and my steak came out on a big slab of black slate. Steak was lovely but it was bloody cold cos of the slate. Whats wrong with a pplate FFS
I'm thinking about doing one if those change.org petitions about it Chazz. What the ****'s wrong with plates?
Blackhouse in Leeds City Centre is the best steak iv ever had , was there in the summer , think about going back again weekly , the cocktails and champagne top notch as well http://blackhouse.uk.com/leeds
That reminded me of a dinner I had in Egypt once, there were a number of ex pats working there and we would meet in the bar on an evening. There was a Swiss chef at the hotel and he said he would do a steak and kidney pie for us all one evening. The evening came and 13 of us sat down to this pie, and as it happened I don't like Kidney so I didn't eat it. The next day 12 of them ended up at the hospital with food poisoning and I was OK. It was fondly known after that as the last supper.
Too right the poor little waitress could hardly lift the bloody thing. You're right about wood too. that cant be hygenic can it? Zillis deluxe chips are lovely. We've got a half price card cost 40 quid for a year and every time we go its buy one get one free. Cant go wrong.
Yeah well, probably Ben, I dunno, they taste great but then I always do that 'kebab on a fork' thing when I'm eating, so maybe they're ****, which means the fantastic burger's even more fantasticer as its doing a grand job of masking the ****ty chips.
I love fish but I've never tried sushi, just don't fancy it, but when I eventually taste it I'll probably like it.
