Haha, glad you enjoyed it Fats! Yeah, I think it probably is one for the middle aged and above - he's great at doing exactly that - making you think "****, that's me"! I don't think I could be more different to Douglas in reality, but there's always some aspect that you absolutely recognise. Same with the most famous of his books, One Day.

The quiz night section I did do a genuine LOL at.

Would always choose a solicitor I could see face to face. A friend tried an on line one and didn't like the experience. I did an on line will once....no problem and they did what they said, but the next time I consulted a real person. Why? Because in the mean time I had to sort someone else's will out and found a local solicitor so helpful with advice at a difficult time that I realised that was what I wanted for my son.

Have to say another friend had a good experience with Purple Bricks, so perhaps on line estate agents are worth considering, but for legal stuff....no.

Not offended at all FLT, but then I haven't read it yet! Thanks for the recommendation (and LTL too), I've downloaded it to my trusty Kindle and it's ready to go when I've finished what I'm on.

It's not so much what the character does, maybe his job, but I just kept seeing him as you in my head.

    It's a book than can trigger a man's self-questioning!

Perhaps it just shows how similar we all are deep down.

David Nicholls is great - I loved "One Day". Will get this one and, I'm sure, enjoy!

For us middle aged people, I can thoroughly recommend Bill Bryson's new one - "The Road to Little Dribbling". I found myself laughing, nodding, agreeing and worried about the things he discusses re the British countryside and the general "dumbing down" of the world and this country. Great book!

Is that a new one to follow Stieg Larsson's ones? I didn't know anyone had taken it on. Rather unsure anyone could do as good a job, but will be interested to hear what you think!

Bryson has written some great books, but he does show what happens with the coming of age. Things you just laughed at in your youth, become intolerable as you get older. He's turning into a grump....mind you, a funny grump. :)

Yep, the very same. David Lagercrantz has taken the series on.

Agreed about One Day - great read.

Sounds like he might well have been abused as a child (not that I am defending him in any way at all) and they think that sticking him in with a load of others of a similar bent (pun intended) is likely to make him worse.
Not sure how I feel about this - part of me wants him horsewhipped and put away for a very long time, but the other part says get him psycho-analysed and sorted out that way and watch him VERY carefully in the future (not that that will happen of course .........)
    Tough one ................

I sort of understand where you are coming from but can't agree I'm afraid! Over a 1000 images/vids of kids as young as FIVE (Over a 100 of which classes in the 'most serious' category). In my book he shouldn't be out on the street, Suspended & Community service is a joke imo.

You see people getting more for pirating films. <doh>

True - I agree that the justice system is a joke at times, but, clearly, there's more to this than meets the eye, hence the decision. However, I hope they take away any way he has of communicating, keep very close tabs on him, etc ........ What worries me is that in a few years time, when he's done something appalling to a kid, they say "Oops - we should have put him away". Like I said, I'm totally torn on this, can't help but feel he's a VERY lucky boy ..........

My problem with cases is like this, is I don't believe people like that can be rehabilitated, I think they will always be like that. So the situation you say could happen in a few years is more likely. Fingers crossed it doesn't though, but this is just one case, there must be hundreds others who are similarly still walking round the streets. Just worries me to be honest with you.

I would have more hope for someone who sought help before they got caught....but I suppose some are in denial and most don't actually even see it as a crime. It is not less of a crime because you don't get involved yourself...because the money you pay out for such photos encourages others to make them. A lot of *****philes have been mistreated themselves, so I feel for them in that sense...but it is future victims that we must reserve most of our pity for.

Banging the drum again about tickets ............. :emoticon-0121-angry

Just spoken to the ticket office at St Mary's and it seems the Bournemouth game is now NOT going on general sale (despite me being told a couple of weeks ago that it would be). The ONLY way is to buy a ticket to a category B or C game (he suggested Villa - not the one next Wednesday - or Stoke) and that gives you the chance to buy a ticket for a Cat A game like Bournemouth. Of course, as I pointed out to him, by the time those tickets go on sale, the Bournemouth game will have most probably come and gone ............
So, next year, they can stuff their season ticket - I'll buy a membership for £30 and choose the games I want to see. I reckon it'll work out cheaper that way and I won't be committed and have to change my weekend to suit Rupert Murdoch and his cronies on TV .............
I bloody hope the seat next to me is taken - it's been empty for nearly all the games so far .............. :emoticon-0121-angry

    Rant over ................ :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Just had a thought, let's create a music thread... specifically for music and stuff.... what say you?

And what a crazy world this is when Bournemouth are considered category A and Villa category B or C. I know they're local, but still...

There's a very decent music forum on the QPR board PL, it's where I post when I want to share newly dicovered artists and I have discovered a few from others too.
