That's a decision we will have to take at the time. We can't stop them leaving if a buy out clause is triggered but if we think they are worth it and we can afford it we can offer them enough to keep them. McShane fell out with Bruce - maybe that's not a good enough reason to get rid Rosenior turned down an offer previously - maybe that's not a good enough reason to get rid Quinn was offered a contract but maybe it wasn't enough wages to keep him and/or he hadn't been getting a fair amount of game time Harper - maybe he was on too much money Generally, maybe the club were reacting to relegation and they thought they could get as good players on cheaper wages from elsewhere We don't really know the dynamics of the relationships. We only see what goes on on the pitch - I accept that's an important part of football, though
To sum up my view: I may have done some of what SydneyTiger is suggesting but there are still compelling arguments to support what the club is doing now.
If City had just offered Huddlestone a new contract based on his current form, how many complaints would that receive on here? More or fewer than the number complaining he hasn't got a contract yet? It's hard to say.
I have a strong feeling that his current contract will be his last one at that level, unless he can convince some other poor unsuspecting club into thinking that he really is as good as the media and many pundits would have you believe.
Don't think anyone's complaining about Hudd. My complaints are in regards to Elmo in particular, and probably Meyler/McGregor too - McGregor would sitll be a useful backup. Davies has had some good form this season too, so a new deal to tie him down - which he has indicated a willingness to do - would be great to at least get a fee for him if we go up and deem him surplus (which I find hard to believe).
Beside's Huddlestone's tendency to pass to City defenders I am amazed at how poor his shooting is. Whenever he is set up for a straightforward shot at goal he usually doesn't hit the target.
I'd like to see Meyler, McGregor and Davies stay. I can't see us getting a goalkeeper better than McGregor.
Agree. Apparently Davies is out for 4-5 weeks now so that won't do his chances of a Jan move much good.
Didn't put us off Diomande. Pretty sure all players bought while in the PL had buy out clauses, but I could be wrong. Think that's according to Ehab so who knows.
Sorry, I was thinking he was with us in the Championship but I now remember he was bought in the summer after we got promotion.
As far as I recall Diomande hadn't spent 4-5 weeks injured prior to us signing him and he wasn't injured when we did sign him so it's a bit different
He was actually. Injured before we signed so didn't play his last game for his club, and was going to sit out the Internationals. We then found out it was worse than thought.
Happy to stand corrected but in that case maybe it should have put him off as he's still 4-5 weeks away according to SB!
