The logo for City Of Culture has just been released, it's a bit meh.

Ridiculously, we had it designed by a company in Sheffield, the City Of Culture can't design it's own logo? :emoticon-0112-wonde

It's good that people from outside the City are feeling encouraged to take an interest. I just hope they respect our culture, and don't try to push their own ideology.

OLM, do you spend every morning walking round town looking for things to photograph and post on here?

Hull 2017 UK City of Culture: BP to be first major corporate partner

BP will be the first major corporate partner for Hull's year as the UK's City of Culture in 2017.

The oil and gas giant, which has a site at Saltend, is set to pledge its full support to Hull 2017 at an event in the city today.

Peter Mather, group regional vice-president, Europe and head of country for BP, said: "BP has a strong affinity with Hull.

"There have been operations on our site at Saltend for more than 100 years and, in 2017, we will celebrate 50 years of BP in Hull.

"BP is a major supporter of UK arts and culture with a programme that spans more than 40 years.

"We believe that culture has the power to inspire and innovate, a precious investment for a thriving future.

"We are proud of our support for Hull, UK City of Culture 2017, which will enable audiences to engage with an exciting programme of excellence

    in the arts."

The latest Hull 2017 update event is being held at Hull Truck Theatre.

It will include the launch of the Hull 2017 brand identity.

Martin Green, chief executive of Hull 2017, welcomed BP onboard.

He said: "BP's commitment to supporting arts in the UK, along with its long-standing contribution to the social and economic life of Hull, makes them an ideal partner for Hull 2017.

"This partnership will help us to deliver a programme of great art and culture that will inspire and engage people locally, nationally and internationally.

"Just as important, it will help us to secure a lasting legacy for Hull 2017 that will benefit local residents and communities for generations to come."

Councillor Stephen Brady, leader of Hull City Council, also welcomed the announcement.

He said: "As a city, we have put cultural regeneration at the heart of our plans to reinvigorate the local economy, create jobs and improve the lives of local people.

"Hull 2017 and BP are integral to those plans and I am delighted to see that they are now joining forces to ensure Hull makes the most of its year as UK City of Culture."

The branding theme is that there is "more to the story" of Hull and encourages citizens and visitors to dig beneath the surface in order to discover the city's rich cultural offering.

As well as "mischievous" slogans such as: "Everyone back to ours", "Think you know Hull? Think again" and "You can sleep when it's over," the City of Culture team also revealed a new logo for the event.

It features an H made up of concentric lines disappearing into the distance, although, if you look closer, there is an optical illusion of a diamond floating at its centre.

As well as the unveiling of the new branding, there is also expected to be an announcement today of a major national event heading to the city in 2017.

The clean one at the top makes my eyes hurt.

The other ones in a suitable setting actually look ok.

Despite disappointment at the logo not being designed in Hull, I have to say, I love the 'Everyone Back To Ours' strap-line.
