Prior to Sunday 14th April 2013, I'd only seen my beloved Sunderland beat our rivals 4 times in my entire lifetime. I tended to view derbies with nothing but dread. But that Sunday at a gloomy, depressing St James' Park something beautiful occurred. Sprouting out of that washed out, bleak, gray, lopsided, hell hole something colourful bloomed. A dawning of a new era. The birth of a new period of dominance. A gift that would keeping giving derby upon derby.

A defeat wouldn't be the end of the world which ever way I look at it, nothing lasts forever and they're due a derby win. It will take more than three points to erase the prolonged nightmare from the minds of the great unwashed from the dark side. From a points perspective I remain unworried too. With plenty to play for, this early season derby lacks the pressure that the reverse fixture could bestow on us, should we find ourselves in the danger zone come March of course. That's not say that defeat wouldn't damage us, far from it, the sooner we get that first win on the board the better.

It's with this in mind I look forward to Sunday's derby without showing fear. Nerves can transfer to the players after all so lets channel them to our finger tips, It's a day to stand proud and blow the roof off the Stadium of Light. It's also the chance set records and to kick start our season. There's more to gain than lose but don't expect to keep your fingernails.

Great stuff Bri ........ really looking forward to this, I've been to 4 of the last 5 wins and only just missed out on the second 3-0.

The Mags have been so demoralised by the hammerings that it was funny watching them trudge into the SOL for the Defoe game.

Now after a rare win, against a promoted side at home, they're puffing their chests out as if they're on track for Europe as Mike promised.

Neither side are very good but Newcastle's away form is undeniably dreadful and there's no reason it can't be 6 in a row.

I'm going for 2-0 to Sunderland in a bad tempered ugly game.

A proper match day thread. A lot more thought went into this one compared to the other load of ****e currently running.

A draw written all over it imo.

Tactics will play a bigger part than in many derby games.

I can't see McClaren exposing that defence and keeper so will want to keep the game tight and play on the break.

That should help to keep the home support in good voice and gain the momentum which we should have after the last 5 wins.

If we go a goal up I can see Allardyce packing the midfield and playing for a 1-0.

We'd need to be patient after that and hopefully get another on the break.

    I'm going for 2-0 with O'Shea & a Borini penalty ...........

No choice anyway. Watmore has virtually no hope of being fit and Buckley is away. Mavrias would be the only other option. Or am I missing somebody? Don't fancy Larsson anywhere near the flanks. Not attacking enough for me.
