Why not have a museum for Peter Mandelson, the architect of New Labour? He did as much for the country as MT, if not more. The Northern Irish loved him!!
Thats not fair - he may have done a lot of damage but he did nowhere near as much damage as thatcher! ;p
The idea is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Didn't the government spend something like £4m on Thatcher's funeral too? Both ideas are just utterly ludicrous and a waste of money.
Its not just ridiculous, its abhorrent when you consider the lives she ruined, the huge areas laid to waste by her policies. As you say the money spent on the funeral was shocking as well. I much preferred the publics response - buying so many copies of 'ding, dong the witch is dead' that it got into the music charts! Still i suppose its better than boris plan yo waste £60m of public money on a garden!
Do you remember when they had songs about freeing a famous South African from prison? What are the chances that they'll do the opposite for Oscar Pistorius? Back home in less than a year after killing somebody, either by his own stupidity or malicious nature, depending on what you believe. Ridiculous.
Well, after the most recent events this week in Palestine and some really heartbreaking and devastating videos being posted on social media, I shall be protesting among thousands of others outside the Israeli embassy on Saturday. Israel have broken 77 UN resolutions and diddly squat has happened as a result. They've wounded and killed thousands of people and the Palestinian people aren't even allowed to go anywhere, there are no airports and Israel are controlling the borders. Netanyahu really is a different kind of monster.
It really is a horrible conflict and the methods used by both sides are disgusting. The Israeli state obviously have more means to inflict there carnage and as such come out looking the bigger evil. I won't defend some of the decisions and tactics used by Israel as the way they conduct themselves is sometimes abhorrent. But unless you've been there, or lived there and had first hand experience of what it's like living there you won't understand how on edge the entire place feels. The atmosphere of paranoia is incredible, you're surrounded by military all the time, you go through metal detectors to go to the shops or get on a bus or train etc... When your living like that in fear of attack it is no surprise to me that lots of Israelis then end up with a mindset that isn't sympathetic to the Palestinians. I do feel the international community doesn't do it's bit to help ease tensions in the region though...
Looking the bigger evil? They ARE the bigger evil. Palestine have broken 1 UN resolution. Israel have broken 77. It's not even comparable. The civilians aren't even allowed to leave the conflict because they are blocked by land, air and sea. If an illegitimate state are trying to kill you by blowing up your houses, raping your women and using white phosphorus on innocent people, you are obviously going to use whatever means possible to try and defend yourself. Yeah, let's just be oppressed and not fight for our independence. What absolute rubbish. So by that definition, we shouldn't be commenting on millions of issues going on in the world if we haven't had first hand experience of them. My friends have tried to go to Gaza, but were held back and were interrogated for 8 hours at a time. A couple of years ago, some Palestinian students came over to visit my university and when they went back, 4 of them were killed by bombs. The tactics by the likes of the IDF and Netanyahu have been morally reprehensible to say the least. But also, look at the rhetoric that the Israeli government and ministers have been using. You can witness the videos and recordings of the events on social media, the way they shoot at children for fun and spout vitriol at old men and women. They have different classifications of citizenship, for gods' sake. Even the ethnic minorities in Israel (e.g. blacks) have been treated inhumanely. Yeah, those poor Israelis, who are more or less free to do whatever they want, go wherever they want and live their lives. There have been very few innocent Israeli lives lost in this conflict. Obviously it's still wrong and sad to see innocent people as collateral, but compared to the disproportionate violence and torture that the Palestinians have to go through every day, I have little sympathy for the Israeli Zionists. At least we agree on this.
What many people conveniently refuse to accept is that Israel is occupying land that should belong to the Palestinian state that was destroyed after the second world war when Israel was formed by an agreement aimed at trying to make reparation on the holocaust. Since then Israel has taken advantage, whilst the rest of the world's attention is taken up with other issues (9/11, Iraq, Ukraine) to systematically steal land and evict people from their homes to create space for illegal settlers. They then cry foul when a few rocks and useless missiles are chucked back at them, all the time withering away any human rights the Palestinians have left. The US and UK and other governments are happy to ignore this as it is much more convenient to lump the Palestinians together with other arabs as terrorists. Please make no mistake, whilst a lot of Palestinians are not angels, Israel is THE aggressor in this situation.
@paragraph 1 - probably a poor choice of words on my part, I was attempting to highlight that there is unacceptable behaviour on both sides but that Israel are the larger aggressor. @paragraph 2 - tbh I think your choosing to get all up in arms without taking account of the point I was actually making. Unless you have been to an area where they live in that kind of paranoia and see how it effects every day life then you don't know what it's like. I didn't say you can't comment on situations, I said you can't have the same level of understanding. Would you not agree for example someone on the ground in Syria fighting the conflict might have a better idea what it's like to be fighting Assad/ISIS/whoever than we do reading about it in the news? Also I'm not sure why you've then listed a load of poor Israeli behaviours when I had already said I wouldn't defend the abhorrent ways Israel has acted towards the Palestinians. @paragraoh 3 - I didn't say "oh the poor Israelis", I highlighted that when you are surrounded by paranoia, military, check points, metal detectors etc just to go to the shops or get a bus, that it breeds further paranoia and effects the attitudes of the people. You totally missed my point there.
Yep the way they have gone about occupying Palestinian land is atrocious. The tactics they use are simply not acceptable in a modern world and I don't understand how the international community doesn't put far more pressure on Israel. I suppose Israel has friends in high places within certain governments.
I don't really think that if you try to retaliate from being constantly bombed and treated like ****e, that it is unacceptable behaviour. Trying to ethnically cleanse an area just because a certain group of people believe that it is their holy land from their religious scriptures 4000 years ago does not justify what Israel are doing - and let me be clear, I'm not saying that you tried to imply this; I'm just making a general point. I think you need to take into account that some media outlets are more honest and present a fairer representation of the conflict than others. Obviously no-one is ever 100% neutral and there may be some leaning to either side, but as I said before, we can see elements of what happen from videos on social media. Also, certain journalists have been able to go to these areas and judge for themselves when they report back. A lot of us here in the west may not know what it is like as individuals because not all of us have been there, but some of us have families and friends in those players. There are also academics and scholars who have done a lot of in-depth study on the issue and that does include visiting/speaking to locals in these areas. Absolutely. But it's also about who you choose to believe on certain matters. No, I understand what you were saying. However, I think that the 'paranoia' and the attitudes of the people shouldn't be directed at the indigenous people and it should be directed at the government for utilising methods which has now led to the military, check points and detectors etc. Netanyahu, in the most recent election gone by, was about to lose to the Labor Zionist Party (or something like that) until the day before the voting was about to end, he publicly stated that if he and his party are ousted, the Israeli Arabs would have determined the election. And guess what happens? He gets swarms of people voting for him before the deadline and is back into power. This type of propaganda is more problematic, in my view.
http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/international/english-suffering-from-wales-envy-20151016102985 It's ok if anyone on here needs to admit this. Don't feel bad...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34570876 Do you think our physio team are like this, and that's why all our players practically die whenever they go to the physio room with a simple 'knock'?
This is comedy gold. I couldn't tell if this was a joke or serious. This clip wouldn't be amiss from a Laurel and Hardy movie...
Just out of curiosity, what are your guys' views on the Henry Jackson Society? I personally can't stand them, especially that prick Douglas Murray.
