Put him out on the right wing, and I'll think we'll definitely get more out of him. It was the fact we signed him to play central midfield which was laughable, and hopefully that experiment is over!

He can play a number of positions so to sign him to play just one would be a waste

This is where we disagree - you can probably put him in a number of positions and he won't complain but it doesn't mean he's any good in them. His best position is right wing and even then, he's nothing special.

Yes we disagree, he is special, and whereever you ask him to play, or importantly he will decide himself based on reading the game and experience, he will have a positive contribution

I get what Klopp is saying. Milner can do everything and play almost any position. He's just not particularly good at anything or in any position. He's a safe bet who can be relied on to do the donkey work when surrounded by good players. A bit like Ji Sung Park, one of my least favourite United players of all time. I'd sigh whenever I saw him in the team but understood why Fergie put him there.

I'm sure the money men liked that aspect of his presence in the team/squad but I don't think Fergie could be convinced to pick a team to sell shirts!

You think Milner is a special player?

There's no doubt whatsoever that you didn't rate him when he was a City player. I don't think I've ever encountered another football fan, either in person or on t'interet, who is as blinded by club bias as you are. Imagine what you'd be like if you'd ever been to Anfield!

    Hum.

Well at least it shows he has faith in the players and that they can be better and not just average to ****e.

Hopefully the players can get a boost from his words.

  11. I'd say it is more to do with what you expect from the position rather than Milner not being good in them. Milner will always do a job for the team not matter where he his asked to play. I agree that he is best on the right (yes, I've changed my mind since the summer) however he's not ever going to be an explosive winger that many of us would perhaps love to see. He'll be a hard worker with the occasional much like Dirk Kuyt was.

For me, special is the wrong word. A better word is effective - Kuyt was a good finisher who scored important goals, at least 10 goals each season as well as assists.

If Milner can do that, then that's a job well done (ignoring that he is the highest paid player at the club). Problem for me is that I've not seen much from him other than running hard, and even then, one drop of the shoulder and he is easily beaten. His passing and control in the final 3rd has been poor also. His energy is crucial in Klopp's system but the lack of quality is a concern.

  13. True but the movement's not been great either. It takes two to make a pass just like it takes two to make a good cross (a defence I gave Downing many many times). Of course, you could also argue that he shouldn't be attempting a risky pass, if the pass isn't on then don't play it. The most disappointing thing from him as been his delivery (crosses), both at set-pieces and during open play.
