Anyone else think the Aussies poor show could be down to them running on empty after topping the group of death.

They've only really had the 1 easy game, and that was against Uruguay, but the other 4 games have all been tough matches against good opponents. Was yesterday's display a sign that it's beginning to take its toll on them?

They just didn't look the same side who took England apart, and as strong defensively as they did against Wales:biggrin:

They certainly dropped their bundle Shergy. They gifted 3 tries and did look flustered for much of the match, and their tight head prop screwed the scrum for them. There is every chance that you may have hit the nail on the head mate, but personally, I think it was a one off shocker. Checka will probably give the guys as easy week of it, but I suppose each of the semi final teams will be well cared for from now on.

Yes, certainly agree. I'll take the plunge and say, quite heroically, "New Zealand vs. Australia in the Final".....but I sure as hell ain't sure and would not bet a brass farthing on it! <laugh>

Hopefully it was just a one off shocker and abit of a wake up call, as my money's on your fellow countrymen. But it was very alarming how Scotland got at you.

Though you got through it, and i suppose that's all that matters really

Australia were a bag of nerves against Scotland. Foley had a nightmare but his winning penalty will save his blushes. They tried there best to give the Scots the game but prevailed in the end. Argentina will fancy it after seeing that.

Not really worth it as only backed them after the England game at 7/2. New Zealand are well odds on now so there not really a price I could save on. I'm just gonna let it run and hope for the best

Well, anyway, P.G. was indeed a weird s.o.b.

Am currently working my way through the third 'Jeeves' omnibus; great volumes to dip in and out of! This is my third reading of this series. My other favourite 'read' of this type are the 'Rumpole' tales by John Mortimer.

I agree with 'PG' on the view expressed by one of his characters about one of our national traits! Being glum a la Mr Murray and 'dry' a la Mr Dalglish are characteristics we should also be proud of!!!!

Just went looking for Wodehouse quotes.

I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. <laugh>

Yep, I like the Rumpole stories too, and G.K.Chesterton's. You know, when we lived in England the missus loved reading P.G., used to find her reading his stuff and laughing her head off, and English is her second language. Puts me to shame. Nevermind, gotta have a few dummies on this forum to balance the books............:emoticon-0101-sadsm

Wodehouse. “The glimpses I had caught of his face from the corner of the eyes had told me that he was grim and resolute, his supply of the milk of human kindness plainly short by several gallons.” <laugh>

Never mind the Jocks grumbling about the referee’s last minute decision in the Quarter-Final against Australia, it seems that World Rugby are determined to undermine their officials by criticising Craig Joubert as well. I guess that means he will not be blowing the whistle for the Final...

He never was going to be, it was always going to be Nigel Owens as long as Wales didnt make it.

He wouldn't be considered for any semi or the final anyways at this stage, due to him being South African:biggrin:

Must be weird being a referee in that situation. Hoping your own country lose, so you get to do the final

I used to sit on the bus to and from work plus during tea-breaks at the office reading Wodehouse, John Mortimer and Tom Sharpe. The guffaws and stifled laughter must have drove my fellow passengers and colleagues nuts. I intentionally created covers for the different sized volumes so my reading matter remained a mystery!!!

I suspect the kiwis would love him to officiate in the final. He's been on every New Zealander's Christmas card list since 2011. Doesn't get many from the French though. The Aussie/Scotland quarter final wasn't the first time he's had a shocker.
