Looking at telly's in the shops today and there's loads of brands and prices, are the brand names worth the extra cost or are they all the same inside? The same applies to many other things, Cola, cornflakes, baked beans, cars do you still get better if you pay more?

You get what you pay for.

    However.

Lower quality with cheaper might suit you for any number of reasons.

You might not need some features.

It's all a balance of what you need versus what you can afford but Samsung and LG do make smashing teles.

I think my Samsung LCD is OK but does every LCD TV go a bit blurry on the screen when there's abrupt movement? My very old low definition telly didn't do that.

I think as the first response said, it really depends. With some things yes, you get what you pay for. With plenty of things though, you're just paying for a brand name. Apple is one massive example of that.

Older LCD sets did suffer with that problem, they weren't really that good for watching football on. The new LED sets don't have that problem.

The telly thing was what sparked the thought. Back home now and some posts have mentioned mobile phones, in my family we have an I phone, a samsung, a hu r we, and I have a no name thing which was the cheapest, has the biggest screen, biggest memory and best camera. I still like Kellogs cornflakes and Heinz baked beans though.

Some foods you can't tell the difference but others you can. We once had Tesco's cola in and I couldn't stand it - had an unusual after taste. Stuck to Pepsi.

This^ Get a Samsung or an LG, you honestly don't need to look at any other brand. Be sure to get a full HD rather than a HD ready type though. Other than that, the only other advice I'm prepared to give you is.....Fish fingers, you want Birds eye, peas and anything else should be Birds eye.

Oh and Wold Top do a lot of really nice ales.

Id never suggest Apple TV tbh but as a long time Android fan, I currently have an iPhone 6 Plus. It's a lovely phone. I hate myself for saying that.

Apple for me has always been style over substance with a premium added on. On my contract the price was the same for this or the Galaxy S6 edge.

I don't regret the decision but I do still feel a bit dirty.

Regarding TVs there can be subtle differences between different brands and you do get the best quality if you pay for it.

Most people probably wouldn't notice tho so it's very subjective. My missus can't see any real difference between HD and SD but it jumps out at me.

I hear you Happy, all our family have iPhones, they really are smooth and easy to operate, plus you can iMessage or facetime for free, they're so convenient.. I understand why people don't like the brand but they really do make good products.

Two years is a long time in electronics.

Most tv's are obsolete by the time you've got them wall mounted.

I was having this exact conversation today about the Aldi adverts where they compare products to their own brand versions. Some things are exactly the same but own brand Cola as you say is generally terrible and another example is milk chocolate. I don't think there's an imitation out there that tastes like Dairy Milk.
