That's a real deal for Coventry. He has lots of talent and if they stick him in the middle of the park and jav withers doing the running and chasing to get him the ball, he'll rip that league up.

Sad to read that former Everton manager, Howard Kendall, has died. RIP.

Very sad news. He became, at the time, the youngest player to play in a Wembley FA Cup Final, for Preston in 1964. One of the survivors of black and white TV games. Will always be remembered as an Everton player and manager of course.

Yep. All the modern media memories seem to be of him as a manager, but he was a heck of a player too, in that midfield trio Everton had of Alan Ball, Howard Kendall and Colin Harvey. They were magnificent together and helped Everton win the title again in 1969-70.

I heard him speak twice as an after dinner speaker and he was excellent. I also spoke to him one to one for a few minutes and he was a gentleman.

One of those speeches contained something like this:

"There were a lot of rumours around that season (circa 1993/4) that I had a drink problem. We then had a really bad start to the season and struggled to score goals and win games. I was called into the boardroom and we said we needed to sign a new striker. That striker was signed and didn't really answer our issues, so when i was called back in again a few months later and asked why my new striker hadn't worked out... I told them that it was they, the board who had suggested I sign him at our meeting a few months earlier. They then said to me, "Howard, we said you should get dried out, not Rideout"

It was funny at the time, honest.

Am I right in saying they have lost quite a few players from last season? Loan returns and exits?

Yes and they sold their best 3 players, but Cooper wouldn't try and find a plan B, he also changed his attitude after he move to Sheffield fell through in the summer.

Patrick Vieira has backed a Swiss TV decision to sack a Champions League pundit for claiming “black players are not used to paying attention to certain details”.

The Manchester City youth coach spoke out after former Derby defender and Italy international Stefano Eranio caused a storm with his comments.

Eranio had been speaking about Roma defender Antonio Rudiger during the German’s 4-4 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night.

Eranio said: “Black players in the defensive line often make these mistakes because they’re not concentrated. They are powerful physically, but when it is time to think … they often make this type of error.”

    Apologies if already posted....

Bastian Schweinsteiger is considering taking legal action against a Hong Kong company making Nazi dolls that bear a striking resemblance to him.

    Link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34606799

A quote from company in question: "We thought that all Germans look like that. Bastian is also a very common name in Germany."

    Really?! <laugh> <laugh><doh>
