Can we please learn from the last time Hernandez was thrown into a game after International Duty and was non-existent? Last thing we need is an injury for him.
I went to a do on Tuesday night where Nick Barmby and Andy Dawson were the guests, Barmby said he couldn't believe the support that night, and it was great playing in front of a full upper and lower tier, plus the overspill in the cheese wedge bit in the corner that isn't generally used. He also added that we couldn't wear our normal shorts that night (presumably because of a colour clash), and that the kit man had to shoot off to JJB or somewhere like that to buy a load of white shorts.
While Sky Sports 1 are showing City, BT Sport has The Normal One's first Liverpool game live from White Hart Lane. Tough viewing choice for the neutrals who have both!
I got in just as he scored the pen. Dozy ****ers only had one turnstile open. Can't believe that was 11 years ago....
Never forget that night, what an atmosphere and game, lets hope the lads come back with the points tomorrow, they are on good form so it will be tough I think they have won four on the trot.
I've been reminiscing on Facebook about my first visit to Hillsborough, it was Boxing Day 1973, we went on train, got harassed to the ground, some of us went in their club house at the ground before the game, it kicked off in there when the pre match compare decided to recreate the song In The Summertime by Mungo Jerry onstage with a City fan and a Wendy. Anyway the City fan who I think was Gaz Marshall had a Doc Martin on a stick beating out the rhythm and the Wendy had a box pretending to play the bass, it all went well til the locals got a bit furious about 20 City fans sitting in their club house, so Gaz whacked the Wendy round the chops with his boot on a stick and we all legged it. To the match, my mate and I decided to sit in the seats because it looked safer than standing, we were in the best stand with Leppings Lane to our left, this was Boxing Day, there no more than 100 Hull City fans in the ground, me and my mate went because the whole of Sledmere the home game before were singing "if you're all going to Wednesday clap your hands " cue the crescendo. Bastard Liars, a 100 turned up, 98 of which were trapped in the corner of Leppings, surrounded by Wendys chanting " Tachy, Tachy, your gonna die " at someone I vaguely knew. The Police did **** all to stop 90 mins of spit kicks and punches at the group of City fans trapped but defending themselves, see even in 1973 SY Police were ****s. The game ended 1-1, then began the Warriors style retreat to the train station, now I swear the writer of that film saw us trying to get back, it was seriously scary, I got whacked more than once, we all did, one was shoved into a moving bus, he was a very handy lad I'd never met him before but helped him back to the station he is still my friend today. We all managed to get back into the train station only to be met by hundreds of Wednesday fans still after blood, luckily a load of Sheffield United fans turned up from somewhere and ran them. In fact I met fellow City fans that day that have become my friends we grouped in Kempton for many years after that, most don't go now but we still keep in touch. I know it's frowned upon nowadays, but following football in the 70's was tribal, it was very dangerous, times have changed for the better, but what a ****ing great time we had, 2004 was the last time the boys were back in town, it will never be as good as that day again.
The one turnstile is a story of folklore. There were four open, two for the top tier and two for the bottom tier. They all ran out of change and City fans paid £5, £10 at most to get in. I queued for an age for the top tier and spotted the queue was moving for the bottom tier and got in with plenty of time to spare. Remember getting back that night and putting a post on the Wendies Rivals page about the fiasco. AP apparently said 3-4.5k were coming that night. At 6pm the queues were huge. We moved on as a club that night, Wonder what might have been if we'd been mullered like what happened when Hurst scored 4 when we wore green
It's not folklore - I was stood in the queue! There was when we joined one turn stile operator - not two.
I ende up in the corner, it was filthy, a copper said it was the first time any fans had sat in there for years, we were very close to the locals, they weren't happy
Me and my mates were on the left next to the wedge. We got bombarded with everything that night, bottle of piss, coins and even a couple of trainers. We paid a tenner to get in because they had no change and after we collected the coins they threw at us we had a grand total of 30 quid. It was the best away game i've been too, fantastic night.
