I'd rather us be labelled as 'the new Stoke' than 'same old Sunderland.' Stoke seem to have no real problem with relegation, so that'll do me! In fact I would suggest that we could have already been labelled as the 'new Stoke' for the past 4 seasons now. Unfortunately we have had the added negative of us being utterly diabolical thrown into the bargain as well.

Indeed but would you not like to watch football rather than the stuff Pulis served up at Stoke and Sam does wherever he goes? Its soul destroying. Saturday should be an enjoyable day out away from the missus. Sam made me want to stay at home with her and talk about what we were going to do with the decor in the spare room. Seemed preferable to watching Martins and Owen try to challenge for the 60 yard bombs he had our defenders launching. Phil Brown described him as better than Wenger because of his stats knowledge <laugh> Yep I love watching stats on a Saturday.

I agree I'd happily settle for steady mid table obscurity. However only if I got to watch football being played. I find myself almost sympathising with your lot, thats how bad he is.

I'd settle for mid table obscurity going hand in hand with awful football just to steady the ship for a season or 3. It'll be much more preferable than watching the constant relegation threatened drivel. Sick of getting beat virtually every week. Not only that but sick of the self destructive lazy attitude that minces about on our pitch. That has been 'soul destroying.' Give me awful but hard working football every day of the week over that. And if Sam performs a miracle and establishes ourselves as a mid table, occasionally floating above the relegation zone, sort of side then we can be in a position to start complaining about the quality of football, get rid of him, and replace him with somebody who plays football thats more easy on the eye.

He is the best of a bad bunch and if anyone can salavage them it will be him, I hated the football here under him but in general I have always liked him and IMO he did a decent job at west ham and did miracles at Bolton as we all know

Hahaha. If he hadn't done the bad things off the pitch (head butt etc...) I would probably have him back.
Unfortunately his conduct off the pitch was disgusting so I'd rather have a red hot poker rammed up my poop shoot whilst wearing normal coloured chinos and wearing an 'I love Mike Ashley' t shirt.
My issue has always been his behaviour (which most would be sacked for) rather than his on the pitch performance.

I completely understand what you are getting at and losing is not fun. It makes sense to stablilise and then push after replacing him. I'm just not that big a fan of his style of stabilising. If we went down playing half decent football and having a go I can deal with that. As long as we try like we did against Chelsea I'm ok with things regardless. I think for me I just like going to the match and watching decent football. You want to win of course but this whole PL at all costs lost its lustre for me a while ago. I like to see a bit of commitment and at least attempting to play football. Its where Nolan, Barton etc were good for us. They weren't super talented but they tried their bollocks off for the cause and tried to play football properly. We've had more talented players since, but there is something else missing. Certainly a connection with the fan base but more than anything that bit of character. I can deal with non tippy tappy as long as there is effort, Sam's style is just a step too far. All the long balls and playing stat percentage football does my head in.

I'll take unatractive 1-0 wins and draws over the unatractive kickings we take week in week out. We've actually look decent going forward this season but ****ing hell the football prior to this season has been some of the worst I've seen

Our football has been garbage for years, so garbage football and picking up points beats the humiliation. Sam wasn't my choice. I didn't want anybody linked. We attract ****e cause we are ****e.

Sunderland are professional escape artists, however you will eventually push your luck too far.

I'm a West Ham fan, not a mackem, we were in a far worse state when Sam took over than Sunderland are, it's popular belief that the fans wanted Sam out, yet in his term as manager there was only ever one banner, and the same photo with it in was used over and over again. It was a very vocal minority, most wanted him to stay and continue his work.
He'll do a great job there, unless their fans are too dense to see the wood through the trees and scream for his removal before he's even started.
