We were neighbours in Mumbles before I left the area for pastures/continents new. Very popular girl in Mumbles. No side to her, unlike Zeta Jones.

you may know my fathers' family , he was from Skewen ,part of a local now defunct painting company who used to run out of the old railway ticket office at the railway station. But that's as close as I can get in claiming knowing Bonnie Tyler , and I used to have my hair cut in Francis John and still think Crescis ice cream is superior to Joes <laugh>

My dad used to clean Gaynor's frocks, he always spoke very highly of her. As a kid i spent most saturday mornings over in Skewen, Lunch was always taken across the road at Cresci's where i'd marvel at Alf's moustache. Saturday afternoons naturally were spent down the Vetch.

Crescis ice cream I grew up on, it was a delight to have in walking distance from my home, as was the chipy also. It's a close thing to compare Crescis with Joe's, who I think just edge it, haven't had a Cresis Ice cream for years, is it still as good now the old folk have passed away?

I'm sorry to say that I don't know reference the ice cream , it's rare for me to go into Skewen ,age and having hair seem to contradict each other nowadays.Skewen was at one time the largest village in the UK unless my dad was bigging the place up <laugh>

It's 30 odd years since i had a Cresci's ice cream, but i can still remember it like it was yesterday, i reckon it was better than Joe's or Forte's come to that. Don't remember Francis John but i did get my hair done by Ken - the barber next door to Cresci's chip shop

Francis John is/was opposite Crescis', I think the memory of the ice cream is maybe better than the actual taste , so I'm going to treat myself and get back to you.

Don't forget that there was also Ralph the Barber, not far from the "new" Police Station.

Perhaps there should be another thread all about Skewen.
The Dog track , Jenkins coaches , David Thomas and Sons builders merchants , Two bloody Post Offices, The Harp pub , the barber opposite the Travellers pub where the nice man told my dad that I'd never lose my hair as I had a double crown (lying barsteward .:frown:) Stadium garage, BRS ,

We've been spoiled when it comes to ice cream. Joe's;Cresci;Cascarini;Sidoli;plus a couple of others whose names I forget.

Morriston sported Bayliss,Pompa's,and my personal favourite Greco's,which was better than all the others, including Joe's.

Philistine, Crescis better than Joe's. That you not getting any ale at The Villa game.

By the way I always like Bayliss ice cream, but not as much as Joe's.
