A smashing goal with all of the style of a confident, in-form player. What more can we ask for in mid-October? Was the GK aware he could move his arms?
I think this was our key argument with Roo last season that a striker isn't just there to score goals, they have to contribute to other aspects of the game as well. He of course disagreed, so it'd be interesting to hear his opinion on a striker that he thought wasn't a striker scoring goals in a manner that fits his own description of a striker.
I don't fear January at all. Next summer though could be very very messy if we are not back in the PL. It is going to be very interesting to see how good we can become in the next 3 months. Hernandez has had a good international break with Uruguay and helped them to 2-0 and 3-0 wins. Maloney scoring for Scotland on sunday and Akpom for England U21's last night is also good news for the Tigers. Same team as Forest on Saturday @ the Wendies and another 3 points and 3 away wins on the bounce please lads. The fixture list over the next 4 weeks is very kind to us imo.
It's not just the players, it's how they are used as well of course. For all this 'Steve Bruce helps us bring in big players' argument the truth is that who we can get is actually still limited and he isn't as big a draw factor as some make out. Hernandez is putting more effort in which is good, but really it should be something we expect anyway. Huddlestone was talked up as being an amazing buy by some, but as you'd expect some supporters will want to hype up someone to be more than they are. As we saw in the transfer window others elsewhere are somewhat less impressed.
Worra load of please log in to view this image Sterling. Talk to me about Altidore who was scoring for fun for the US of A against those mighty International teams like Ecuador, Jamaica and The Isle of Wight (that was a joke Sterling) but managed 2 from 60 in the Premier league. Oh yes, I forgot, he wasn't just there to score goals he 'nutted' somebody in his last game for us, got a 3 match ban and promptly went back to Spain for a holiday. He then went to Sunlun where he performed with the same flair by making 30-odd appearances for another goal (I think) and his biggest contribution was waving to the crowd (with his pockets full of money). Now seeking glory in the Mickey Mouse league which is where he came from and best place for him. Hernandez is not of Premier League standard nor is he worth anywhere near the 10 million quid we paid for him. Oh PS: Steven Fletcher got a hat-trick for Scotland against (wait for it) Gibralta. WOW! Do we expect to see him in a Hull City shirt any time soon! Gawd 'elp me!
A bit harsh there tigeroo. He's performing better and better this season and I still think that he's capable of banging in around 15-20 goals this season if he carries on the way he is.
I hope he does - it will help us back into the Premier League BUT tell me how good ol' Fraizer Campbell went after scoring 15 goals for us and then went to Sunlun. Hernandez is nowhere near a Premier League striker.
Fraizer Campbell unfortunately for him suffered a terrible injury, came back and scored some vitally important goals and eventually got called up to the England squad so didn't do half bad. If he could have stayed fit he'd have done a lot better than he did. Hernandez still has time to prove doubters wrong. Now he's learning the English game I reckon he'll come good
As you know there are many reasons why he may be sold in January, one of which would be if we were made an offer that matched his value.
Campbell managed 6 from 58 for Sunlun which is almost 1 in 10 - hardly proficient - or did he do something else apart from making an appearance? He managed 13 from 48 for Cardiff and then 4 from 23 with Palace. He has 1 international cap. From 4 from 25 in the EPL Hernandez has scored 5 from 8 at Championship level. He is not up against the finest defenders in the world at this level but was in the EPL where he wasn't quite fast enough, wasn't quite tall enough and had no first touch. 10 million quid my @rse!
It was actually 6 in 58, but 29 of them were sub appearances, many for about 2 minutes, so the one in 10 is a fairly pointless stat. He's not good enough for the Premier League and he's a bit of a twat, but I see no reason to try and claim he's worse than he is, he was brilliant for us. Hernandez is potentially much better, he's not responsible for his fee, all we can hope is that he gives it his all and he bangs in the goals and at the moment that's exactly what he's doing.
Plenty of strikers in the Championship were bought for around the fee we paid for Hernandez, and have scored roughly the same as him.
Errm - about what? He didn't make it in the Premier League and remind me again how many offers we've had for him?
Wrong about Abel not even being a striker's arsehole? You know Italian clubs were after him during the summer, right? Or did you coincidentally forget that? Stop digging.
