Winter Wildlife

I'm not the most observant of folk so will probably be oblivious to the whole thing.

 

I was at fuddy's house last weekend (as I usually do) and was having a smoke (she makes me smoke at the back door) and heard a thud. I looked out and a pigeon with a damaged wing was wandering about on the decking obviously stunned. Sitting on the bird table (yes, she has two bird tables in her garden) was a Falcon of some kind, possibly a Kestrel I dunno.

The Falcon saw me and flew off while the pigeon staggered under a nearby bush.

Clearly the Falcon had knocked the pigeon out the sky and the thud was it hitting the decking. Fuddy got a wee bit upset and she put some bird seed out under the bush where the pigeon had taken refuge.

I went back to work on my lappy and about 20 minutes later she said something had got to the pigeon because there was feathers everywhere under the bush. I went and looked and summat had burst the pigeon open. Mibby the Falcon came back, or, a cat got to it.

Anyhoo, next morning, the pigeon carcass had been dragged out onto the lawn, feathers all over the place.

Ain't nature beautiful.

PS I also once drop kicked a cat over a 20 foot security gate after it bit me. The wee **** deserved it.

Kestrel eating a pigeon

I had two deer practically in my back garden a few months back. It was dark and at first I thought it was large dogs.

 

Mibby could have been that. It swooped off pretty quick when it spotted me. I can't say I saw so much white plumage on it.

I dunno the diff between hawks/falcons.

Also, there is a buzzard that haunts the locale. Obviously it never took the pigeon down because they eat carrion but it's the prime suspect for thieving the pigeon carcass out from under the bush.

 

You tell me whit then, ya fanny.

 

Maybe it was a snowman?

 

I was staying in a Hotel in Glencoe and we heard noises during the night. We opened the window and it was deer looking for grub. It's a known hill walkers Hotel and it was clear the deer were used to getting fed there.
